Jimmy no match for Jack
It has taken us a while to get things sorted with the horses. I have a well at home and it was contaminated. It took us a long time to discover the problem but it was an issue with the water, and I was drinking it myself! . They got sick around February and there seemed to be no sense or reason as to the way they were running. We tested and tested and eventually found the problem and we've changed wells now. Sean Boylan (former Meath football manager) also came in and gave them some herbs to help pick them up and now we've had four winners in just over a week!
Well Tuned scores for Nicholson/Sexton
I knew there'd be no pace in the race as they were all flat mares and I told Kevin (Sexton) to let her bowl along in front if she was happy to do so. That's her trip, she had a light weight today and she'll have a rest now as she'll be in season for Galway. it was like a disco at Kilbeggan and she blew the top when we were walking her up past the bandstand on the way to the parade ring. To me there is no sense in that and you go racing to go racing.
Vic goes one place better two days on
She was bucking out of her skin this morning, she was in savage form and we said she would earn nothing at home. She is improving all the time and she is a grand mare. She will go to Galway if she is well for the mares handicap hurdle on the Wednesday. It'll be five runs in three weeks but if she is well she will go there. Shane gave her a super spin and we said we'd take the bull by the horns by making racing prominently and you wont get a better seven pound claimer than him.
Bride now two from two over fences
He won at JT's meeting here last October and Richard Johnson won on him. He was a little bit clumsy over hurdles but he is different over fences. He needs good ground and thankfully the rain didn't come earlier.
Sexton doubles up on chasing debutante
he (Enjoy Responsibly) jumped brilliantly and was always professional in his jumping but was very disappointing over hurdles when he never got home. He jumped so well today he took me to the front down the back and in the end all I was worried about was getting him safely over the last two fences. Fences seems the way forward for him.
Stolberg a welcome winner for McNamara
Andrew rode him the last day and he said he was doing everything too slow so he told me to take him home and to wake him up and to sprint him everyday. He had been too relaxed. I'm under no illusions that it wasn't a stayers hurdle trial but he did beat Enjoy Responsibly here by over eight lengths (in March). This horse was my last winner in September of 2012 and I didn't think I would take this long to win another.
Collen springs surprise on debut
She has been working well and always showed plenty up Crowley's gallop but I got no grass work into her. We didn't even know what ground she wanted coming here. Tony Slattery her owner and breeder has been with us since my fathers time and it is a lot of years since he had a winner. He had a lot of the ground work done with her and now that she is a winner we might end up in Galway.
