Bookies on the mat after Cork opener
I told her owners that this mare would probably win a point to point and that they could sell and get nice money but they said they don't care and only want to win races. She had a great run at Wexford, on a tight track on her second run, and had no work since so I was sticking my head on the block a bit today - but you couldn't stop her owners (Going Stone Mad Syndicate) and one of them came from Washington for the race today. There are five in the syndicate, one each from Ardagh and Abbeyfeale in Limerick and the other three are in America.
Bonbon a sweet win for odds-on punters
Sadie continues good run for O'Connell
My horses are running well and she is tough and improving all the time. I might give her one more run and put her away for the summer - she'll be kept going as long as it's soft. She might be better over further and is a full sister to another horse of mine Admiral Brian who also took time.
HRI call proves vital for Kaiser
His runs at Leopardstown and Naas were very good but had one blip when he chipped a stifle at Tipperary. He is a very nice, big horse who is a chaser in the making. He might go for a winners' of one at Punchestown next before being left off and he'll go chasing next season. He jumps well and just took time to mature. I'd have been disappointed if he'd have been beaten today but I have to thank HRI as I hadn't him declared. They rang me at 10.10am yesterday morning to say only four had been declared and I declared him then! . Other than that he wouldn't have ran here as I thought it was going to be the inside track and it is very tight. It also rides quicker than the outside track and he does want soft ground. It was a nice call by them!
McNamara & Barry Time it right
Westerner makes his Point back over hurdles
He jumped well, stayed and settled well today. It happened a bit easier for him over three miles today than the last day over hurdles where he might have been taken off his feet (at Thurles). If the ground dries up, he won't run again this season. He has been a great servant and it's been a great week for us.
