Royal Ascot plan for Cotter's 'very good' juvenile
we knew coming here he was a very good horse. He has loads of speed and he keeps going, and he showed today that he’s very professional. It opens a lot of doors for him, and he could go to the First Flier at the Curragh (May 1) but, ultimately, his longer-term target would be one of the Royal Ascot races, the Windsor Castle Stakes. He was quick away, very professional, knew his job and, dare I say, it was never in doubt. He’ll stick to five furlongs for the time being. There’s no need to go further and I’d say he’ll be even quicker on better ground. he was bred by Jim Ryan, in Milltown — a famous nursery of young stock — and we’ve had his close relations Inflection Point and Zen Silence. It’s an American family, and they’re very quick. He has a great temperament. We thought, coming here, if his home work was anything to go by, he wouldn’t be beaten. He is owned in partnership by Thomas McGrath and Ivan Knobel who are Dublin and London based.
Burns' Bungle-bred filly scores for McCreery
she is a beautiful big filly and was in with me last year but I told Maurice (Burns) to send her home and give her time. She was always sharp, is a very honest filly but was a work in progress and that's as fast as she's ever gone. She is a smashing looker and you won't see a better looking filly here today. She's relaxed enough to go six (furlongs) but we'll stick to five as she shows so much pace. We'll plot away with her and being a daisy-cutter, better ground will be no harm. Maurice bred her and has the stallion (Bungle Inthejungle).
No concerns for Bolger's New Variant
Burren Song scores for the Slatterys
He is a good hardy horse, keeps galloping and was in off a good mark today and took full advantage of it. He had a nice run over hurdles on yielding ground at Tramore last year under my cousin Adam Ryan, who said he handled it and the ground isn't as bad as you'd think. He got the run of the race and I think he has matured from last year and is staying better. His owner Pat McNamara, from Limerick, is a lovely man who has kept the faith in the horse so thankfully he has come good.
Villanova Queen another for Harrington
She picked up a little setback after the Guineas last year and her owners let her wait until this season and it worked out. With the heavier ground recently we waited and this race had ideal conditions. We'll see how she comes out of this and she has a few fancy entries so hopefully it is onwards and upwards. It was only as I was saddling her that I thought she was carrying condition so I think there is plenty of improvement in her and I'd imagine she will stay further. I loved her attitude before the race as she was so chilled - last year she used to get on her toes.
Apprentice Persse wins on Apprentice
We gave her a chance, to be honest about it. She was working away well, and the drying ground helped. Last weekend, the way the ground was, I thought we had no chance. She’s a grand filly and will stay a little bit further.
