Say It Ain't So records shock win on chase debut
That was a nice surprise. He is a nice horse and was that when he was younger, but we've had to be patient. I was wrong with him last year and was training him too hard at home and couldn't keep condition on him. We've taken our time this time around so wasn't sure how fit he was but conditions suited and it was an ideal race to start off in. As big as he is, he just flicks along on the ground so once the ground is safe, he'll be out all summer. I'm delighted for Pat and Angela (Gleeson, owners) and the Kearneys as they had to be patient after buying him.
Emancipator justifies strong support on switch to fences
We bought him from Donie Hassett six weeks ago and in fairness, he said he'd be a way better horse over fences. We haven't done a whole lot with him and didn't do enough work to find out so it was all down to Donie and Brian (Hassett). He had a chase rating when we got him, which will probably go up two or three pounds now! . Fences improved him, he jumped really well and Ambrose is a great horseman. Thanks to Ambrose for getting down to 10st8lbs too as I'd say he didn't have much to eat over the last few days. He also has his handicap hurdle mark and we'll have plenty fun for the summer. We have the 30-member syndicate going for two years and they are a great bunch.
McCurtin doubles up aboard Crosshouse Boy
He is a lovely horse, is well bred and he ran very well on his first couple of runs. He disappointed in the middle of the winter but I think it was the ground and we brought him back at Limerick three weeks ago after a break and he just got tired turning in. He stayed on well today. He'll be a summer horse and will go chasing eventually. I don't think it was a fantastic race but the syndicate will have plenty of fun for the summer.
Fanoir stays well to score for the O'Dwyers
When we entered her the race was 2m2f but when I declared yesterday morning it was 2m3f and 137 yards and I thought 'oh my God'! . She travelled well over two miles in Thurles the last day when she was obviously beaten by a fair horse and I didn't mind stepping up two furlongs, but didn't want three or more. I got no notification but presume the change was due to the starting position of the race and the handicap hurdle was also changed. I said to the owner we had to run as it wasn't a brilliant mares' maiden and we'd learn whether she stays or not. When I saw her being so keen, I thought she'd never get home but she stayed. She jumps well and will be a smashing mare for the summer.
Callaghan and Barcoe team up with Courting Vickie
I'm delighted as she has ran well more than she has run badly and I'd say two miles was too sharp the last day. The dead ground and 2m4f suited her today. I never have a big number to run and train a few of my own and have some very good owners.
Shanbally Kid looks a name to note in the bumper
I'm delighted with him and it was a lovely performance. A lot of the credit goes to Colm Ryan who works with me and does a lot of the breaking and pre-training. Colm really built the horse up after a break and he came to me three weeks ago and has been terrific since. It was a smashing performance and if you look back at his Thurles run, he was green and got tired but did show a little bit. He has only came to himself and blossomed since. You'd like to think somebody will come for him. John and Dan (Hayes, owners) are local to us and I'd be astonished if they keep him long-term - maybe one of the top three boys (trainers) might come and buy him. Eoin O'Brien gave him a brilliant ride and is a real sure pair of hands.
