Winning Cheltenham combo Triumph at Naas
that was a surprise! He jumped well and travelled well but Tennis Cap and Kick On Boss didn't run their race. He won twice at Galway and I thought he'd be a nice horse but he cut a leg at Bellewstown and was off for 6 or 8 months.
Phil leads home a Hughes 1-2 in Listed Hurdle
they are both lovely horses and Phil's Magic had the form. He had a break after November and he'll go to Fairyhouse now and we'll see if he gets to Punchestown. He's progressing all the time and we'll step him up to two and a half miles at Fairyhouse. He'll be a chaser in time. Prince Of Scars is a big baby, and chasing will be his game.
Gold Cup winner bags Naas feature
we always thought a lot of this horse. He did well in bumpers and over hurdles and is now doing well over fences. He's still a bit careful over the fences but is big and a proper winter time horse. If the ground is soft at the Festivals he could go and take his chance but ground is the key to him. His pedigree is all staying, and hopefully one day there could be a real nice chase in him.
Russell completes weekend 'double-double'
fair play to Eddie (Harty) and the lads as we actually thought this lad was no good at the start but they stuck with him.
Captain Von Trappe gets back on track
Flood wins Leinster National with Miss Xian
we took a chance from 6lb out of the handicap; it's not something we'd normally do but it's a black-type race and with a filly, it was worth taking a chance. That's her third win here and her fifth in all. She's tough and she stays and the 3m5f race at the Punchestown Festival springs to mind straight away as a possible target.
Fahy's filly wins finale on debut
she's a half-sister to Good As Gold and we were hoping to run her in Ronan's (Lawlor, the late jockey who had been employed by Fahy) race at Gowran but couldn't get her right. She was struggling to get around the gallop with a muscle problem but once Liz Connolly worked on her she got her right. Maybe she could go to Aintree but that would depend on the ground, as it can get quick there. Fairyhouse or Punchestown are options as well.
