Ted Walsh received a timely boost ahead of Foxrock's imminent outing next week and the Grand National winning trainer landed the opening Hospitality At Naas Racecourse Beginners Chase at Naas today, when his Rossvoss caused a 14/1 upset in the colours of Dermot Desmond.
Ridden by Sean McDermott, the son of Medicean raced third of the four runners before moved past the fading 4/7f Tennis Cap at the second last. McDermott moved Rossvoss to the front at the final fence and the pair stayed on strongly for a 15 lengths win.
Walsh, who famously won the 1997 Triumph Hurdle with Desmond's Commanche Court, later reported "that was a surprise! He jumped well and travelled well but Tennis Cap and Kick On Boss didn't run their race.
"He won twice at Galway and I thought he'd be a nice horse but he cut a leg at Bellewstown and was off for 6 or 8 months.
"Hopefully he'll go on to fulfill the promise we thought he had."
