Going - Heavy. Overcast
Pazzo strikes in Naas opener
It's only his third real run as he ran early on in the year and the ground was too fast for him,. He missed the kick in Tipperary and then over the five furlongs in Down Royal he was taken off his head early on. He came home well the last day in Navan and we thought these conditions would suit him and it was nearly six today. We said we'd send him forward earlier. Dylan said he was just idling a bit going to the line but he had plenty in hand. He's a nice horse, he has plenty of ability, and he's learning everyday. He's still a bit green and should come forward again next year. He's a big horse and has to fill his frame, I think he'll be a lot stronger next year. He's coming forward everyday and it's great to get a win out of him before the seasons ended.
Geerdharry off the mark on Wave
Both fillies came here with good chances (also saddled 4th Mile End) and I just thought claiming the 10lb off Wave Machine would give her a chance,. She ran in a Group 1 last time and the ground was a bit quick. I said to Nick that the Birdcatcher would be a nice end of season target. It's a first winner for Yudish, he's a very good young lad. I have two young lads Michael Beresford and Yudish and they are watching Jamie (Powell) and they are coming along in leaps and bounds. Hopefully you're going to see a lot more of them over the winter months. He had a very good draw and I said to him to be patient and wait for the gaps and when they come don't go too soon. He rode to perfection. His Dad runs a restaurant in Dublin and the family are from Mauritius. This is his second year with me. He started off with Dick Brabazon and he recommended that he come to me. It's taken him a while, he has no pony racing experience, but he's smart, intelligent, he's light and I think he'll do well.
Magical Vision makes it two wins from three starts
I was delighted to win a maiden with her the last day but I actually thought she'd improve a lot,. Today she had to battle and she did it nicely. I was delighted to see the winner of the first race. We like her and we'll give her a little break now and hope to get her out good and early next season, get a bit of soft ground. She has to have a little bit of an ease in the ground, she's a Dragon Pulse. She's a great oul spin and she has loads of gears.
Odds-on Sierra Blanca wins decisively
Cosmic Vega relishes ground at Naas
We had to play our hand as it's the end of the year and he loves soft ground,. We said we'd take our chance, the conditions (of the race) weren't ideal for him, but he still has his summer coat and looks great. Some of the horses don't hold their form at this time of year and I felt he was in great form. It wasn't a surprise to win with the way conditions are. He's not in any sales and the people that own him bred him as well so they'll enjoy the journey with him. Who is to say he won't get better and he might even get a bit of black-type some day in these conditions. He's learning to settle better.
Duke De Sessa clings on for victory
It was a very good performance from a three-year-old under top-weight,. The second horse is a five-year-old and as Chris said it's November ground. It was a good battling performance and he just started to idle then in front. He's performed well all year, he was fifth in the Guineas and has been on the go since April. He's a tough horse. He ran a very good race last time and was a bit unlucky not to win in France, he was only beaten a nose and half a length and came from way off it. He deserved to go out with a big win again and he's done us proud during the year, he's a multiple group winner and we'll look to having a very major campaign with him next year. He'll be doing a bit of travelling.
Fahy & McCullagh land November Handicap
He was tough, it's great that he came back to himself as he was struggling to get his form back. He was running well but not getting anywhere and a lot of my horses were doing the same. That kind of makes up for the whole summer because I had very few horses to run. Between one thing and another it was quiet and to get this last big handicap, I can't believe it. He ground it out well. Niall gave him some ride because often times he can lose his races out of the gates. No matter what schooling you did it made no difference. On better ground he can't get it back but today the ground gave him a chance, when he came out the rest of them weren't gone on him. He's in all summer so we'll see what plans Frank has. I don't know where Dunvegan finished but I just didn't have him ready enough. Chris was delighted with him but he just gave a blow half way up when he needed him. He's a big giant of a horse and that will put him right for another day.
Dha Leath a third on the day for Cromwell
She's game as a pebble, she tries very hard and gets through that ground great. The horses are running well so it's great,. We had two nice winners down below (in Cork) which is great. I felt sorry for My Mate Mozzie (beaten a neck in the November Handicap) as he ran his heart out again and there is a big one in him.
