Monbeg wins his first chase
He's a big long distance chaser,. I doubt if he'll run in graded company and we'll look at some of the long distance handicap chases on soft ground with him and give him a rattle at one of those. Hopefully he'll make into a nice handicapper.
Punchestown double up for Elliott and Russell
He's got his act together and he's running well,. We might have been a bit of a fortunate winner, as the horse was going well behind us, but jumping is the name of the game. It's great for Brendan Scully who has been with us a long time. It's nice to get another winner for him. We'll just keep him to those two-mile handicap chases.
Killultagh Vic Pleases With Return Win
His engine is in tact alright but his hurdle jumping brain hasn't changed much!. Hopefully everything will be alright over the next week and we'll probably look for something over fences for him the next time. He's not a natural hurdler. The main thing is just to recover from this race and look for a target after that. I sort of wondered whether I'd stay hurdling with him this season but the way he jumped there he's not going to step up in class much more. We schooled him over fences the other day, before Leopardstown, and maybe that's what was in his head but he hasn't the best reputation as a hurdler. We'll probably look for a chase. The Kinloch Brae in Thurles might come too soon. Maybe the Red Mills Chase might suit better. Today's job is done and the next job is to see how he comes out of the race, then we'll look at something after that. The conditions of this race suited. We entered him in other races over Christmas but these conditions suited and he needed all those weight advantages to win.
58/1 Punchestown treble for Elliott and Russell
He's a horse that will mix and match it between the Flat and jumps. He'll definitely win plenty with a bit of luck,.
Vendor back with the cheek-pieces on again
Ronan (Short) did nothing wrong on the horse the other day in Leopardstown. We didn't have cheek-pieces on him then and he didn't start racing until he turned for home,.
Quick return pays dividends for Urbanist
He did it well. He ran Tuesday up the north and it was the first time with cheek-pieces on him,.
Moyhenna signs off on 2017 with a win for Hennellys and Hogan
She hasn't run a bad race all year. We could have stayed hurdling but I said to Robert that she qualifies for the bonus and it's vital that you have one more cut at it, because it's like winning two races,. I'm delighted she's done it now because she deserved it. She's run well in all her races and she's a chaser in the making. Whatever she does over hurdles will be an added bonus. She's 16'3 and a staying mare. I have her whole family. Her sister by Flemensfirth is going to run in a point-to-point in the next week or two and we think a bit of her. I also have another three-year-old by Flemensfirth and a two-year-old full-sister to her. The Hennellys have been good supporters of mine but unfortunately they couldn't be here today as Robert is quite sick at home. That's a good end to the year anyway. I'd imagine she'll head for a two-and-a-half mile plus mares maiden hurdle towards the end of January or start of February. We won't over-race her this season as it will all be about novice chasing next season.
