All For Joy ends series of runner-up placings with Naas win
he’d a lot of two’s but was unlucky to come up against a lot of good horses. He was nearly always in front in bumpers and the last day we held him up and I think it took its toll. He was keen early with a hood on him. We decided to do nothing today and let him travel within himself. He works at home like a good horse. He got what he deserved and normally you don’t get what you deserve, man or beast. He’ll probably go for a novice now maybe somewhere like Fairyhouse.
Cromwell's Quest scores on handicap hurdle debut
it probably wasn’t much of a race and he loved that ground. He’ll go for something similar again. The owner Turlough Blessing had A Place Apart with me last year, and he’s a nephew of Colm O’Rourke (Meath footballer and GAA pundit).
Poker Party maintains Blackmore's excellent Robcour run
he was very tough. It felt like a long way to the line after the last for me but he got there. His jumping improved again today and he’s on an upward curve.
Elliott's Mate wins Naas feature, runner-up cut for Triumph
I thought it was another second! He’s a grand honest horse but Davy (Russell) said he just does what he has to do when he gets there. The four-year-old (runner-up Hannon) was getting a lot of weight. Davy had to change tactics when Puppy (Robbie Power, on nearly faller Jetz) fell. He wanted to get up and take Paul (Townend on Prince D'Aubrelle which later pulled up) on and not give him a complete freebee. A fast run two miles would suit him better, and you could even step him out to two and a half. He jumped well. The plan is to keep him for Aintree.
Cadmium books Grand Annual ticket
he’ll probably go for the Grand Annual at Cheltenham. It probably won’t help his mark with the weights still to come out but it’s a nice race to win here today.
Double for Cromwell as trainer hits 30 wins for season
he was a good Flat horse at one time. It looked like he was going to win a couple of times (over hurdles). We gave him a wind operation recently and it’s obviously done the trick with him. A bit of good ground helps him. He was plenty keen enough going past the stands the first time. The plan was to ride him with a bit more cover and a bit colder. I thought he was going to be in a bit of trouble and he might not see it out.
Mon Lino on the mark for McManus, Walsh & Nolan
he hadn’t much bottle early on, and we said we’d switch him back over hurdles at Leopardstown and were delighted with the run. Off the back of that we said that we’d go back to a fence with him. It was an ordinary enough race today once Gordon’s horse (Elliott, Kayf Thou) came out of it, and a small field suited him. He’s not simple and hopefully he’ll just get better.
Gigginstown wins bumper finale at Naas
he’s come on a lot and he’ll come on again. He won first time out in Galway very well, and he had a good run in the Listed bumper behind Envoi Allen who everyone knows about. He’s come forward lovely and did that well. It was very tactical with just four runners but they went a decent enough gallop and he picked up off it well. He’s a smart horse and one for the future. His full-brother (Carefully Selected) was second in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham.
