Dragon's Pass masters her rivals in Navan
That was a little bit unexpected. This is the first time she's gone that distance and it looks like she's crying out for it. She really tried out there, she likes that ground and now I know what trip to run her over. We'll keep her going over the winter now that we know she likes heavy ground. I'm delighted for the owners as they've been very good supporters of mine for many a year. Sean gave her a great and said she actually took him into the race which is great. She had a good few runs on the Flat to sharpen her up. She's a beautiful-looking mare and I'm delighted to get that for the Newells.
Big King in charge for Connell and Bolger
It was a lovely performance. He had a good run in Bellewstown where he was a bit green and ran around the place. The winner (Railway Hurricane) has ended up being a good horse. Then we went to the north, where you'd think you'd be going for an ordinary maiden hurdle, and The Shunter turned up there. We'd never run him on winter ground before but we're happy enough that he handled that. He'll go for something similar. There is a novice handicap hurdle at Leopardstown over Christmas and we might look at that. He's done his job today and that's the main thing. He's not over big but he's athletic. We have a couple by that sire, Born King, who only covered a handful of mares. We also have King Alex who won here two weeks ago. We got one good one by him a few years ago so went back and bought a few more out of a field. We're not sorry now, it's turned out well.
Black off the mark on chasing bow
He jumped very well. He got his own way in front and that helps a free horse,. He's well able to jump and when he relaxes he just shows what he can do. He never really settled over hurdles. In better company he's probably going to get taken on but I rode him down to the start and he never picked up the bridle in behind horses so you wouldn't know, maybe the next day he could drop in. He's a classy horse when he puts it all together.
Minella Indo strolls home for de Bromhead
I'm delighted with that. He did everything good, it was a lovely race for him and I'm glad we've got it behind us now. You couldn't have asked him to do it any better. He jumped really well and did everything he had to do. I would imagine we'll aim towards the Savills Chase at Christmas, I think that will be our next one. He's had two nice races for second-season novices and now we have to go against the big lads and see how we fare there.
Blackmore at the double on Lord Erskine
He's a decent horse on his day but he's had problems and it's just taken a long time to get him back,. He was a bit keen today and the jumping seemed to wake him up a little bit. He handles that ground well and stays well. Hopefully things stay right with him, it's a long time since he won the Irish Cesarewitch here. He'll keep on going over the winter. It's nice for the owner Jerry Nolan who is a very patient man, it has paid off. There might be something for him over two-and-a-half or three miles at Leopardstown over Christmas.
