Lordan steers flying 'Dutchman' to debut win
that's my first two-year-old winner and Wayne gave him a lovely ride and everything seemed to go okay. I was a bit worried about the ground coming here as I think he'll like better ground. I'm thrilled with him. He's entered in the Phoenix Stakes — we'll see where we go. Wayne said he thinks he'll get further.
Beacon Rock wins Gallinule Stakes
he's a tough horse and kept responding. Ryan was left alone in front and gave him a very good ride. He was only only what he had to do. We'll have a good look at Ascot with all those horses and he'll get a mile-and-a-half.
Pipes hoses up in another Curragh handicap
that was great and I thought she had improved after the last day; she's getting stronger. I thought the handicapper had made a mistake with his finger by putting her up 9lb but he was right — he usually is!. We've always liked her and the owner has a wish to run her in a Listed race. She has some business running in one (Listed race) now and it would be great if we could get her placed. She has won on good to firm and is versatile but the softer the better for her. For her to have a chance in a Listed race she'd want it more or less unraceable as she goes through it.
Arc plan for Tattersalls Gold Cup winner
it's a race I love to win as it's an excellent Group 1 and it always takes a very good horse to win it. I've been fortunate to win it with a few very good horses in the past and he's as good as any of them. He beat Found fair and square in the English Champion Stakes last year so there was no reason he couldn't beat her again. I'll speak to the owner but he might have the summer off now and we'll look to train him for the Irish Champion Stakes and the Arc. His next race will most likely be the Royal Whip as a prep for the Irish Champion Stakes. He has all the class to win an Arc and has won a Group race over a mile-and-a-half at Leopardstown so gets the trip well. He's a big horse and takes a run no matter what you do with him. Last year we took him to Windsor and he came back and won at Leopardstown - it's hard to get him 100 percent first time out. Today was an excellent renewal of the race and Found is an outstanding mare.
Smullen records Curragh treble, two for Weld
he battled when he won in Limerick the other day, handled the ground today and got a lovely positive ride from Pat. We'll see where we go now and see what the handicapper thinks of the race. A mile-and-a-quarter is about right for him, he has plenty of pace and I actually thought that over the mile and 100 yards up the hill at Galway he would come home awful well. We'll look at the Colm Quinn BMW Mile but the handicapper will decide all.
Jennies Jewel lands Curragh handicap
that was great and it was pretty straight-forward. I said to Ronan (Whelan) if there was no pace it was no problem making the running and he judged it very well. He had a very willing partner. I was pretty confident with the handicap mark and the rain came in our favour and it was her usual game effort. She has been covered by Presenting and is due to be scanned in a weeks time. It's a possibility she might go to France for the Champion Hurdle but if she's in foal and we want to mind her, she might go for the Ascot Stakes as long as the ground is not quick. She was fit and ready to run in the Cesarewitch last year and has been on the go since. She gives everything every time and may have had enough by the time the summer comes.
O'Brien & Moore combine for double in finale
it's good that he's won and Ryan gave him a very good ride. He thought that trip was maybe about right for him and he doesn't want to be in front too soon. He has plenty of ability and is a horse that could start to progress now. It took time with him for the penny to drop.
