Cromwell claims Fairyhouse's opener with La Malmason
she was very good although we were clutching at straws with her but she had kissing spine surgery during the summer and it's obviously done the trick: she had been making a lot of mistakes last year so we got her checked out at the end of the season. I was a little bit concerned the ground wouldn't be slow enough as she'd appreciate softer going and will definitely get further. I'm delighted with the way she jumped today, Keith said when he jumped the first he knew she was a different mare so hopefully she can kick on from here. I haven't looked beyond today, this was the plan although I couldn't rule out the Thyestes or an Irish National. I'm delighted to get a winner at this meeting; we got one in Navan (Troytown weekend) and if you can have a winner at these big meetings it's great.
Well, well, well, as Naturally Nimble shocks Willy De Houelle!
Naturally Nimble disappointed us a little bit last week so we said we'd hunt around here and see. He did it well. They went a good gallop and the race probably fell apart a little bit in front of us and we were there to pick up the pieces. He stayed at it well. He was at a high level on the Flat so hopefully he can keep coming along. He wants that nice ground.
Fahy gives History lesson following Porterstown success
I bought him off James Whelan and I named him History Of Fashion because his relation, Height O'Fashion, was second to Arkle here: it's all a big story but it came right today. It's a great syndicate from Limerick and Clare, headed by Stephen Murphy. I'm very lucky with the very few owners I have: only for them there wouldn't be days like this. If you have a few owners it's amazing what you can do. They'll get some kick out of it. As long as we're buying horses we'll have days like this again.
Royal Bond mini-shock for Temple Bloodstock
I thought every horse that we ran had a chance if they ran their best race. He might have had the fitness edge on them as he'd been running for us during the summer. The ground conditions probably suited him better today and I'm very happy with him. I'd imagine we'll go on to Christmas now. he was a nice purchase for Temple Bloodstock and I'm very pleased for Aubrey McMahon (syndicate manager): he was a reasonably priced horse and it's tremendous for the syndicate to win a race like that. Aubrey seems to be able to buy them cheap and has also had the English Cesarewitch winner.
Mixed emotions as Croke Park wins Drinmore Chase
Michael (O'Leary, owner of Croke Park) had asked if I wanted Sam to get off Croke Park and on Firefox, but I didn't think it was fair as both owners (O'Leary and Noel Moran's Bective Stud - Firefox) have a lot of horses in my yard. You have to be fair to every owner and I just didn't feel it was the right thing to take him off Croke Park: Sam might have been disappointed but that's the game we're in and you saw what happened.
Champion Hurdle-favourite hacks up in Hatton's Grace
Derham 'exceedingly satisfied' with first Irish winner
this is the biggest race I've won so far in my career and it's very cool, because this horse is a little bit older and has a few miles on the clock. To get him back loving it like this and to put in a performance like that was exceedingly satisfying. this race closes early and I thought with the ground in Ireland being quite dry this autumn, that it might suit us and this horse has very sporting owners. We had it in our mind as it obviously has huge prize-money and I thought the track would really suit him. When he won at Chepstow last time out I considered the Greatwood but I thought the track wouldn't suit at all. On this place, with a big galloping track, I thought it would be perfect for him. Very rarely in horse racing a plan comes together but this one actually did!
Elliott and Gigginstown add bumper to Fairyhouse haul
Koktail Brut is a nice horse. We thought we had a few nice ones at home and that was a good performance. He's a bit faster than his half-brother Gevrey and shows a bit of class. I'd imagine we'll look for a graded bumper.
