Bell takes Listowel festival curtain raiser
His jumping was better today, he was in front way too soon but I told Jack to be good and positive on him,. When he got to the front he was wicked green but he has an engine and I think this lad will go a good bit. He'll run in all those three year old hurdles - I don't think he's too bad. It was a good performance today and when his jumping becomes slicker, there is plenty to come. The trip is never a problem and the better the race, the better he'll be. He's not short of pace and goes on any ground, from good to heavy. He is a nice horse to look forward to.
Made bounces back to winning ways
She needed the run in Galway and was improving at home all the time,. I think it was a very fast race and it fell into her lap a little bit - the ones in front were keen to get on with it and Paul sat out and waited for the race to come back to him which it did eventually. I'd have no trouble going out in trip with her as she looked caught for toe over the first couple of hurdles. She will go back up in grade at some stage and we'll try and win what we can over the winter for her owner Sean McManus, who couldn't be here today. I think she'll stay over hurdles this season, she is six now but I hadn't planned going chasing.
Ryan hits 30 for season as Kilashee proves tough in front
I thought Shane went too quick so my heart was in my mouth but I'm very sweet on her. She is a half-sister to Kilcarry Bridge, who I won over €300,000 with,. This is a right filly and a lot of credit has to go to Tom O'Brien (vet) as she got a bad cut on a hind leg and her tendon sheaths had to be flushed. He saved her on two occasions and he did a brilliant job with her wind a few years ago. A lot of those fellows don't get enough credit as without him, I wouldn't have her. That's a real nice filly and I'm excited about this one. She is as tough as old boots, will jump a fence and her dam is an own sister to Hear The Echo who won the Irish National.
O'Sullivan strikes again for Butterfly owners
Kangaroo finally collects over hurdles
He has been expensive to follow and that is probably his trip,. Paul thought he might benefit from going over fences and whether or not we'll go at this stage I don't know but he thought he would have far more respect for a fence than a hurdle. It's nice for Kanga Racing and Brett Graham as they've been waiting a while with him.
Carter collects in eventful beginners chase
Obviously things fell our way when the favourite fell but he jumped well and Davy gave him a good ride. It was a nice race to win and a nice pot,. I thought we would be going back for a beginners' chase now so I don't know where we'll go with him. We'll try and find a little winners' race somewhere. I asked Jack (Kennedy) and he said Gevrey would have given him a race (only for a final fence blunder) but said he wouldn't have beaten the winner.
Easy a Game winner in Listowel feature
It is Nick's (Peacock, owner) first racemeeting since Cheltenham 2020 and he is delighted to be back,. The horse might be improving a bit and we will look at the Grade 2 chase in Gowran, although Royal Rendezvous goes there and we might keep the two of them apart. We'll see what happens and see how he comes out of this race. We never thought he was a three-miler but he ran a cracker in the Galway Plate. Maybe he deserves an entry in the Down Royal Champion Chase (over three miles) - it might be a little beyond him but he has handled the ground up there, it can get very lively, so it is a possibility.
Cigar strikes late for O'Donnell
His owner Brendan Diamond is with me 25 years, I've had some placed horses for him, sent him a few and he bred this horse. I know it's a cliche at this stage but we always liked him,. I said to Maxine that he was very backward and obviously looking at his profile, we minded him, and were cautious, cautious. Brendan asked me if I could have him straight for his first run back, I said I'd have him 80%, and I'm not surprised he won. This a lovely feeling. I had never ridden or trained a winner here but obviously for southern people, Listowel is very important.
