Apollo looks a future star
He did it nicely. I was a bit worried about the ground today, but we just wanted to get him started. He is a beautiful moving horse. We will wait and see what to do with him now but he could go for any of the big 2yo Stakes races as he is entered in them all.
Favourite Fire wins Anglesey Stakes
She has always shown that she is pretty smart. She ran well in the Queen Mary last time out. She was outpaced there in the middle of the race before flying home at the finish. The step up in trip was no harm to her and she is versatile ground wise, as she doesn't mind fast or slow.
1,2 for Oxx as Manieree beat Kirinda
There was nothing terrible about that race, I had first and second. She (Manieree) is an interesting filly and wants softer ground and further. She burnt them all off early in the straight. Kirinda was held up and might have been closer. The winner is a good filly, with a patient owner as she needs soft ground and after the dry months that type of ground was hard to get. The owners want to keep her as they will bred from her in time. She could step up in company on heavy, heavy ground. She has plenty of options now and could go for the Give Thanks Stakes (at Cork) or a race at Gowran in mid August.
Frankie gets Bunting up to land the Oaks
Frankie gave her a brilliant ride. The nice pace helped her. The pacemaker done a good job. I'm delighted for my team who done so well to prepare her for today. I wasn't that confident before the race as I thought every horse had a chance.
Paramount & Pisarek take the Ladies Derby
She knocked on the door four to five years ago looking for some work. She has a degree in Horticulture and she done some dressage. She rode in a few Charity Races in the past. The horse is a funny old lad and we have him for fun only.
Saunders lands Rockingham 13 years on
Captain Carey is a really nice horse. Things haven't gone his way this season. He got a lovely ride from Fran (Berry). Fran won two Listed races for me in the past. I was worried about being drawn three, but they have moved the rail out here, offsetting the disadvantage of the draw. Fran was able to stay on the fresh ground. I haven't been to hard on this fellow and he could improve again for a cut in the ground. I won this race thirteen years ago with a horse called Reporty, he won by five lengths. It was very similar conditions to today, in that it rained on the Saturday as well. I have fourteen horses in training at the moment.
Late Day Sun scores for Weld & Smullen
We brought her back to a mile and two today as she didn't get home over a mile and a half the last day. She looked a winner two furlongs out on that last start. She won her maiden over a mile and two as well.
Quick double for Smullen aboard improving Tak
She seems to be improving again. She didn't seem to cope with Sligo (on her last start). She did it well today and will go for a fillies handicap over seven furlongs at Galway next or a six furlong race at Dundalk.
