Eldama shows good turn of foot in Foxrock
She’s a nice filly. Our horses are a little bit behind because they are looking at the grass and saying that’s for eating and not necessarily for galloping on! . The Curragh has been in drought since the last week of March, so training them hasn’t been the easiest. She’s done well from two to three physically and we’ll try to get her black type. That was a mile today and I’d imagine a mile and a quarter wouldn’t be a problem as her half-sister Edelmira won the Give Thanks over a mile and a half in Cork.
Napa Valley tastes success on debut
Lyons team eye Ebor for Nickajack Cave
Colin was brilliant on him. He was drawn wide and said he’d drop him in as he always felt there was going to be pace in the race and let him enjoy himself. For the first couple of furlongs he thought the ground was going to be a bit quick for him but he’s warmed up into it lovely. He latched on three furlongs out and Colin said he felt like a really good horse. This horse and Bucky Larson have been companions of Siskin so he deserves this. The way he’s won there the plan could be to go to York for the Ebor. He’s after getting that trip well.
Dollar Value proves his worth with third success
Niall rode him last year in Bellewstown and said he could have went a bit quicker as all he did was stay. He made plenty of use of him today and said he had a bit of a blow and thinks he might improve a bit off that. He won over seven furlongs in England but we’ve never seen any of that pace. He won a two and a half miles hurdle for us.
Lyons and Keane shine with Listed double
It was important to get black type for her and, now that she’s got it so quick, we can enjoy the rest of the season. She needed every yard of that and will get further. She won the Red God (Handicap at Dundalk) and we thought she was well handicapped after that, knowing that she would want further, but obviously black type with her pedigree was so important.
Twomey aims to move through grades with Moll
Team Valor bought her and she came to me about ten days after she won in Dundalk. She’s a nice filly and was just ready to run today. I think she’ll progress. It looked a nice spot to start and thankfully it worked out. She’ll have no bother stepping up in trip. We’ll see what the handicapper does but she has the ability to go into Stakes company. Her owners are game and I’d imagine they would like to travel with her in time.
Keane boots home 590/1 treble in Foxrock
He was very backward as a three-year-old and has improved all through the winter. He’s a big baby. I think he’ll keep improving and he might get a bit further as well. He might make a hurdle horse down the road. We’ve about 12 horses in between the Flat and the jumps. Most of my work is pre-training for Ger (Lyons). We broke in about 50 yearlings for him and the backward ones come back to us to keep them ticking over rather than letting them off altogether.
Lee doubles up on Confidence High
He got 15lb for winning here on Tuesday so the mathematics said he had to run with the 6lb penalty. A lot of times you are forced to do this and it doesn’t work out but we knew he was in good form. The only drama came at the stalls with the horse next door and he was taken out. It’s testament to his character that he never flinched. Billy said he was a gent in the stalls and all the commotion was beside him.
