St Faz puts smiles on faces at Killarney
I'm disappointed this horse hadn't won as a three-year-old but maybe the better ground is a big help and we decided rather than losing our novice allowance to wait until now. He was only touched off at Navan the other day and the second has come out and won since so the form is quite good,. We were fortunate the other fancied horse in the race, the second (runner-up How About No) had never run over hurdles and I think that made a difference. Aidan is a great owner to have and I'm delighted Liz is here with him. He likes coming down, I like coming down here and it has worked out really well. He got a lovely ride and settled well for him.
In-form Donoghue enjoys very comfortable Al Gasparo spin
Bargain buy Minx Tiara gains timely Listed win
Minx Tiara is confirmed in-foal to Hurricane Lane so maybe that brought out that extra bit of improvement. We put her back over hurdles because she was better treated over hurdles and while she had a great run at Leopardstown (February), went to Sandown but the (UK) handicapper put us to the cross by giving us 11lb more. She also didn't eat when she went over and the ground was also really tacky which she doesn't like. I was delighted she got balloted out of a hot race at Punchestown (a fortnight ago) as I probably wouldn't have ran her here. she has a high cruising speed, likes to go a good gallop and while she might be a soft finisher, you have to use her early pace. She was initially bought for 1,000 quid in Goresbridge and as she was showing a bit at home, the Fastey For Fun Syndicate bought her and have had great fun with her. She has been placed and has picked up big prizemoney in bigger races. Breeding is a long game and we aren't into it, so we'll probably sell her off at the end of the year and hope to replace her.
Double carpet Senecia takes his chance when it arrives
That was wonderful and we have him since he was a foal. As a three-year-old we failed to sell him and he became a covid carry over so today was a big day,. We reverted back to this distance, he has a good cruising speed and Philip gave him a great ride. He was near enough at the last (when Icare Desbois exited) and got there so that's the main thing. He might go to Galway now and good ground suits him. It has been bottomless during the winter and no matter where we went, there was rain coming. Vincent has five horses and we have a small operation. The competition is strong where ever you go and this is great. The last big pot I won was the Fortria Chase with Arctic Skipper.
Solitary Man wins on chase debut
I put fellas off backing him and while his jumping has always been great, I was just worried about fitness because he hadn't been away due to the weather and with all the rain on our gallops. He was getting a bit tired after the last but he has a bit of class.
Sheahan recalled with fondness as Townend wins on Saylavee
Brideswell Lad gains Killarney National honours
That was lovely and staying is his game. He has a staying pedigree and two-and-a-half miles was too tight for him the last day,. He travelled well throughout, J.J. was very pleased with him and gave him a brilliant ride. That was nice to get at the start of the new season but it might be the end for him for a while. He has been on the go a while so might get a break and the Kerry National would be in mind.
