Marques comes good in style
She ran well the first day in the Curragh and met a bit of interference. Then she was free in that Group 2 (at the Curragh) and she was free a bit in the Ballyhane race in Naas and kind of got caught in no man's land. She came up the middle of the track on her own. She's had excuses, but it is very well saying they have excuses - they have to go out and show otherwise at times. We stopped making excuses today and she won well today. We'll step her back up in grade. There is a Group 3 in Ayr in a fortnight's time and there is a race at Newmarket quite late as well, at the end of October. It is a fillies' race over six. Quick ground doesn't seen to bother her anyhow. It was a grand little pot for four runners.

Joe McGrath aim for improving Ostraka
We bought this animal in February, and Michael Halford who we bought her off will tell you as well, she has a bad back. This chap from Belgium used to come over to John Oxx 35 years ago and his son is better at it - I tried everybody including chiropractors since we bought her, and that owner has had some patience. It is his first ever horse. Your man Philippe came in and he yanked her back and looked at me and said in a Belgian accent ' that will either kill her or cure her!'. She was 460kg on that day and today she is 495kg. She is a grand filly. It is great to get a winner. We are having a disaster of a year and starting to come right now. The Joe McGrath (in the Curragh) will be the aim for her.
Well-bred Ocean gains important brackets
She's a filly we always thought a lot of. She had a genuine excuse that day in Naas and things just didn't go right in Leopardstown. She's a big filly that we always thought of next year for. She is very well-bred, she is out of a mare that won three Group Ones. Jim Ryan took her home after her last run and just gave her a month at home. He gave her plenty of TLC and he gave her a break exactly when she needed it. He did plenty of work with her at home and I got her back a month ago in brilliant order. All I had to do was not mess her up. Seamie said she will be better in a better race going 1m2f next year. She is still a big baby and very important to get her winning bracket. She has done that now so we'll get her home. No matter what we do, we'll be looking forward to next year for her.
Churchill Strikes again for Slattery
I was surprised she was the price she was. She did win a four-year-old maiden hurdle in Wexford. I know she was second favourite, but she was 8/1 most of the day. I know it was a competitive race, but she won well. She looks like she will get another chance in one of these again, so we will try and pick up another one. We might have a go at the four-year-old Listed handicap in Listowel, the Lartigue. It looks like she might scrape in off bottom weight. We definitely will have another go at a '65'. Hopefully, she can win another one.
