Ruby shines brightest in Tramore opener
Unfortunately, her owner Jimmy Gordon wasn't well enough to come. He is an elderly man and this will be a great tonic for him. He has had some good horses in the past and it's mighty to get this. It was a nice easy race.
Stylish win for Stilyker on debut for Mullins
I was happy with him and he did it nicely. We will try and just go up the grades with him. Hopefully he will get into a 0 to 102 now.
Headgear does the trick for Maciver
He had cheekpieces and a tongue-strap on for the first time today. They got a bit of rain and they watered it and he seemed to like the ground. He ran well in a 4-year-old maiden at Boulta point-to-point and things just suited him today. We had the dam (Maryiver) as well and she won twice here. Phillip won a beginners chase on her here. His half-sister is in at the Derby Sale so Ivor (Dulohery) will be delighted.
Kingston Retreat gains second career success
We probably weren't riding her handy enough and not making enough use of her. That was the improvement in her today. We rode her wide because the ground was so well-watered on the inside, it was too much. All the winners are coming from out wide. Danny gave her a lovely ride and kept it simple. She has had two good runs on the lead up to this. In Wexford we probably didn't have an awful lot of luck in running. It was a very funny race and Mark (McDonagh) just got no run on her. Today we said we would keep it simple, up handy in the first three or four. She won well. She will stick to the handicaps and if we could get a mares beginners chase down the line, one with a rating band to avoid the good beginners. The quicker the ground the better she will be.
Mi Lighthouse shines brightly at overcast Tramore
It looked like they just went too fast in front. They got tired and Paul just made the most of it. I think her run in Ballinrobe earlier in the week just brought her on. The experience there stood to her here. I didn't think she would win over the minimum trip because of the way she jumped on her first couple of starts. I was aiming to go a longer trip with her but that now opens a few other doors for the summer. If I can stick to mares contests for the summer it would be great but I'm not sure if there are many races. We will stick to novice races anyway.
Canny Danny excels again on Bitview Colin
He was a very good horse over hurdles and was rated 120 at one stage. He got a bad leg injury and lost a good bit of time. It's great to see him back. He would be classier than most of those. He is a half-brother to Waitnsee and is out of Madame Stella who was a good mare in France. He has the pedigree. It's grand to see him back and he'll go for something similar now. Danny gave him a serious ride.
Townends to the fore as Mullins records treble
I'm very pleased with her and the way she quickened up in the deteriorating conditions. Jody timed her run perfectly and was very good on her. Patrick is away for a few days. We will look for a winners' bumper somewhere and if we can find one for mares, we will go for that.
