'Surprised' Lyons wins with Navan 'jolly'
listen, she was 3/1 favourite so you'll be surprised to hear me saying I'm surprised but I just didn't think she was quick enough to win over five. she has been jumping around, very fresh in herself. You''ll see a couple of scratches on her head - she got down and banged herself around last night. I'm sure if it was five furlongs anywhere else I probably wouldn't have even ran her but she has jumped on from her first run. Colin said she surprisingly jumped out real smart and had the toe to go and kept going. The further she went the better she was. I'm delighted. We thought she would win her maiden and that is what she has done so let's see how she comes home from it. If she's a Stakes filly we'll be happily surprised.
Lynam's Bear makes winning h'cap debut
we'll keep in the handicaps - fillies' handicaps sprints. That's half the population ruled out! I think there's one in the north (around the) Ulster Derby. We'll stick to the handicapping route for the time being. The dam (Good To Follow) won a premier handicap for us in the Curragh and is a half sister to the dam of Slade (Power). It's all that family.
Weld harkens back to hero Harzand, at Navan
it's hard to believe it was a year ago today we were at Epsom with Harzand!. Haripour has done it well, the blinkers helped his concentration. He was always travelling today. He's improving with every run. We'll look for black type with him next. He was impressive.
'Troubled' Lion returns to winning ways
it's great to get him (Sea The Lion) back as he had leg trouble a couple of times in his career. The few years off probably did him no harm as he’s a fine, big horse. He's lazy but finds when you ask him and in fairness to Rory (Cleary) he kept finding for him all the way up to the line. He's entered for Leopardstown next Thursday night over 1m5f again and we'll see how his legs are in the morning. The 1m4f Cork Derby is the plan and whether we go to Leopardstown between now and then, we'll decide later.
Tilly's Chilli in red-hot form
She was good. She has improved a lot and she has gone on improving. I think she will be better over a mile and a half. I don't think she'll get into it but I sort of had the Ulster Derby in mind for three-year-olds only.
Sweetasever and King rule the roost
Lyons excited by 'stronger' Royal Ascot team
I wanted to win the premier handicap today and it was him or Lightening Fast but we are protecting Lightening Fast (handicap rating) as he is going for the Britannia (at Royal Ascot). I said to myself there is much of a muchness between the two of them but he (Gold Spinner) is very much ground dependent and is also hopefully a Britannia horse, so I said we'd stick to the mile against running in the 1m2f race today. If he is a Britannia horse, he had to win this and win it like he did. He wants 10 furlongs but has the pace for a mile. He needs not quicker than that ground which we might not get which will be the deciding factor on whether we go across. He'll hold an entry in the Britannia alongside Lightening Fast - the team is getting stronger for Ascot.
