Lyons secures poignant winner of opener
it's nice to win that race as it's in memory of a friend of ours.
Barron's Lad causes 25/1 upset in maiden
he improved from the first day and had a lovely start (debut) at Tipperary on ground that was very testing. I was glad to hear the track had a few showers here this morning. He jumped, travelled and was very professional. Mark (McNiff) has done a great job with him from a small stable and that's two winners I've ridden for him in the space of a couple of weeks.
In-foal sprinter claims fifth win
she's a fantastic filly and we've always liked her. When she was young we thought she'd be very good but she wasn't finishing off her races but she's finishing off now but is in foal and will only have one more run. She'll go for the listed race in Cork in two weeks time and if she got her head into third (for black-type) it would be great. She's in foal to Starspangledbanner (Group 1 winning sprinter), so you can't get much faster!
Pirolo scores for Bolger/Cleary
he had a good run at Gowran when he was only beaten three-and-a-quarter lengths and Rory said he was going to be positive on him today. When he came back in he said that he'd make a lovely hurdler for someone and he's genuine and a beautiful ride. We're delighted with him and he kept going at the end.
Ibsen scores despite 'a long last furlong'
Bolger completes Navan double
Eddystone Rock completes double
I bought him at the horses-in-training sale and couldn't get an owner for him. I'm kind of happy I have him (runs for JP Murtagh Racing) now!. I felt he had improved from his last run and he's settled into the place now. He was working better than he had all year and he has strengthened up well. The handicapper is going to be harsh on him after winning by six lengths and he'll probably have to go for a premier handicap but hopefully he can step up. We were only learning with him and the first day in Dundalk we made the running with him but he likes to be held up and come through horses. I always thought he wanted good ground but he has handled soft as well.
Lyons and Keane complete Navan double
Colin said he was only doing a half-speed. He's a big baby, was very green and was on and off it (the bridle). He went from thinking he'd win easy to 'oh Jeanie' and he then idled in front. I like the horse and the further he goes, the better. That was the next part of his education. I also like the third horse (stablemate Ex Patriot) and didn't really want to run the two against each other but I love this place for that type of big galloping horse. Hopefully the winner can develop into a nice stakes horse.
