Outlaw rules in Cross-Country
that makes up for Thursday . we are point to pointing people and get a right kick out of this! . This is great that J.P. (McManus, owner) sent us the horse for Josh to ride. We thought Thursday was like our Gold Cup but this is more than a Gold Cup!
Foildubh gains deserved win
Foildubh is a proper horse. Robbie Colgan (jockey) did all the hard work on him but we just needed a change. Paul Carberry was brilliant on him and probably being dropped out and the step up in trip helped. He is going out to grass now and we'll bring him back for the Kerry National (Listowel, September).
Ninth Grade 1 win for Lynch
Hisaabaat has been a very consistent, tough horse and got a lovely ride from Andrew. He has progressed throughout the year and ran a smashing race at Cheltenham, having won his Grade 1 before that. I was a little worried about the two miles and the extra half a a furlong at Cheltenham but he got it. He is a horse who could make a Champion Hurdle horse one day but I doubt it will be next year as it is tough for five year olds. He'll keep progressing and maybe in two years' time he will make into a Champion Hurdle contender. There'a a big flat handicap in him, he is a ten furlong horse on the Flat and I would say Pat Smullen will be keen to ride him but he might go out to grass now. He can run keen in the blinkers and I wasn't convinced he would run up the hill at Cheltenham if he ran free-ly but on the tighter track today, we put them back on.
Owner makes the right Choice!
I didn't want to run her! I thought it was a waste of time running her on that ground and she wants better ground. Micheal (Sammon, owner), who lives not far from my yard and is a great supporter of mine, said 'feck it, we're going racing for the bit of craic and we'll run her!' All the credit must go to Micheal!. Mae's Choice was in good nick and Paul gave her a great ride and it worked out!
Mullins 1-2 in season finale
they are two nice horses. I didn't think the winner would handle the ground but I thought the other fellow would. We will continue hurdling with them and we could look at the Galway Hurdle for both. It was been a fantastic week and there is a lot of credit due to everybody connected with the racecourse . they deserve huge credit for getting through the meeting.
