Mary Salome grabs her opportunity at 25/1
That was good and I'm delighted with her as we were very disappointed with her the last day. She was in good order but, I don't know, maybe with the time of the year she wasn't herself on the day. We drew a line through it and were delighted to get in (as a reserve) this morning and she is versatile ground-wise. She is a good-looking filly and please God we have another day out like this. We got the call early this morning, half an hour before the departure time so it was good timing!
Geneticist adds to his Sales value
He is a lovely horse who we bought at the Breeze-Ups last year. He had a little setback last year and kept getting a respiratory infection and we just gelded him and threw him out and forgot about him. It is paying dividends now as he is a horse with a bit of scope. He is a forward-going horse and wasn't drilled for the first day and we were over the moon with him when he finished second to what looked a good horse. He seems to have stepped up and improved and that ground wouldn't be for him as he has a lovely action. He looks an exciting sort of horse. We didn't get to buy any Breeze-Up horses at the last sale and this horse will now go as a wild-card to the Newmarket Horses In Training Sale next Friday. We'll turn him into cash and buy a couple of two-year-olds to keep the show on the road.
Owner Washborn to make decision on Guineas dream for Doll
she has a 1,000 Guineas entry and I'm not sure we'd want to be bothering with that but Clive Washborn (owner) is a big sportsman and is a real character and he may want to take advantage of the entry and we'll let him decide. She is a lovely filly and Colin was pleased with her. It means a lot as the Clive is English based and has plenty horses over and I'm really glad we have had a bit of luck as we haven't really had any lately. She is inclined to over-race a little and Colin said to leave her at that trip for now. My daughter said to me on the way in 'Dad you haven't had a winner in ages' so that was was badly needed!
Kenny and McCourt Have A Nice Day in Limerick
I have him two and a half months and he is a grand, hardy horse. We said we'd try Karen on him as sometimes those older horses go well for lesser-experienced riders. I was wondering this morning whether to run him but I went back through his form and he had a very good run at Galway last year on soft ground when he stayed on very well up the hill. He wouldn't want firm. Laurence (Dempsey, owner) is from the midlands but is away in England at a brother's birthday.
Hayes still learning as he boots home double!
Harrington has hurdling in mind for Limerick winner Onlyhuman
he was a bit unlucky in Leopardstown and has done it well today. He will get 1m4f and as long as there is a bit of an ease in the ground we'll keep going with him. We said we were going to step him up in trip because he is going hurdling. He is a super jumper, I have him well schooled and that's probably why he is settling better. He will go hurdling after the new season starts on May 1 but I might give him another run in a flat race before.
