McGarvey's mount prevails under a hold-up ride
He met a bit of trouble and was further back than intended but they went quite hard up front. He was honest,. He proved his Listowel run was unlucky as the saddle slipped and he would have gone very close to winning. He was third to Japan, would you believe, in a maiden at Listowel on soft ground last year so that would do! . We'll have a bit of fun with him and I've nothing in mind for him next.
Gold Speed makes a winning start over hurdles
JJ was saying to keep doing what we're doing with him and not to rush him, . He said he will take even more time and he is a horse you could fry very quick as he is very highly strung. He said he had plenty left in the tank and when he gets out in front he will relax. He'll go for a small novice hurdle somewhere and if there is a Final (of the Series, at the Punchestown festival) we'll be there!. After his bumper run behind Felix Desjy he had a capped hock, which should have been a minor thing, but it got bad and he had to have minor surgery. We had to call a halt and attack it and he was then in a cast for six weeks. It's great to have him and hopefully we can build on today.
Connell's wait for license continues until spring
It is unfortunate but they (IHRB) are going to have the next trainers' course in the spring. I think it is the first time ever that they didn't have more than one course in the year. One was held last spring but the autumn course was cancelled as a minimum of ten people was required to hold the course. we expected that as these were only summer horses and he is a proper winter horse. He had been to a schooling hurdle in Tipperary and ran well there and is improving all the time. He is class (to jump) and loves jumping. He was getting all the allowances there so you wouldn't want to get carried away, but he is worth an entry in the Craddockstown Chase, over two miles, and the 2m4f Florida Pearl Chase. If he is not good enough we can drop him back down again but I couldn't have been happier there. Kevin Brouder has been riding for us but is injured at the moment and we're been using best available at the moment and Davy (Russell) is one of four riders we're using today.
Blackmore rides first winner for Paul Nolan
I think if it was softer he'd handle it better and while you couldn't call it impressive any of the hurdles he had to jump (three hurdles were bypassed due to low-lying sun) he was foot-perfect at every one. He is from a staying family and is out of a mare Aura About You who won a Listed hurdle and was third at Cheltenham to Quevega. I think he'll stay all day and I think he will improve a good bit from today. If you come out to the better tracks you are going to meet Envoi Allen and a better type of horse and while he was entered at Wexford, I thought the track would be too tight for him. Rachael said he was still immature and we'll see how he comes out of this but he could run in a Graded novice hurdle next. That's Rachael's first winner for me and she is brilliant but I feel sorry for Bryan (Cooper) who unfortunately has no luck at all at the moment.
Bottom weight De Mazzaro lands featured handicap hurdle
I might be a bit ambitious, . If he is in similar form he'll do that. Galway is a great place for him to break his maiden tag.
Moore excels as Georgieshore wins for local owner
. We said we'd drop him out and ride him cold. He was unlucky when he fell the last day and got through that ground well today and the jockey gave him an absolute sledger. We got him in June 2018 at the Ascot sale and we were aiming him at Listowel that year but had a little setback. He is 11 rising 12 but off that mark hopefully he'll win again.
Powerful Ted is the right one of Meade's pair
He is named after Ted Walsh junior who joined our team recently, . I was going to name him Power-something-else but Ted said 'you can't call him that' so we named him Powerful Ted. Obviously we fancied the other horse but I don't know why he ran as bad as he did, although maybe he is not a bumper horse. We knew this lad wasn't too bad and had worked very well. I thought the ground might catch him out a bit but obviously not and I'd say he is a decent horse and has a good pedigree on the dam's side. He jumps very well, is not over-big but keeps galloping. Martin (Cullinane) who owns and bred him is at a wedding and couldn't come. Martin sells all his horses and the plan would be to sell him.
