Clean-sweep for Mullins in Gowran chase
the ground is perfect for us so I wanted to get the three of them out. It’s not ideal but we let them take each other on and have them ready for Christmas so we know where we are going now. Paul (Townend, on Minella Cocooner) was a shade unlucky having to make all the running and the horse was a little green in front which cost him, as well as the mistake at the last. Take nothing from the winner, who travelled the whole way and jumped well. He had the benefit of getting a lead but did come through and jumped well. He did everything right. Whatdeawant might need a longer trip but was a little more novicey than the other two. They are three nice novices to go to war with at Christmas.
Deegan delivers with welcome winner for owners
she was due her turn and got a very intelligent ride. Her experience jumping helped in this ground. She is a low grade mare and we’ll go handicapping now. I was a little worried about the heavy ground first time out (since April) but she’s keen and does a lot at home. He gave her a lovely ride. It’s great for the owners Sis and Ned Power as Sis is not too well at the minute and we are all thinking of her.
Elliott & Kennedy keep the sunny side up
the Sun was in his eyes as the tape went back the last day and he just stood at the start. It was just one of those things. today is probably the first time he’s really got soft ground in the last year or two. I thought it was a good performance and he’s done it well. We bought him to be a big staying handicap chaser and it’s a great pot. It’s great for Stephen O’Connor who has been with me from the start. The first horse I had, Mr Nosie, was for him and was sold as a point-to-pointer. He could come back here (for the Thyestes Chase) over three miles in January.
Inothewayurthinkin added to McManus' Christmas list
he’s still a baby and green enough but I’m delighted with that. He knew his job a bit better today and looks a nice one going forward. He showed a good attitude from the last and wanted to win. He’s entered in the Grade 1 novice at Christmas. He’ll probably stick to two miles for the moment but looks like a lad that will stay a bit further.
Consecutive Gowran wins for Kalanisi Star
he’s a grand horse, he just eats and sleeps, does his work and wastes no energy. He’s very relaxed. I think he’ll come on from that run and will appreciate going further as well. He obviously likes it here as he won his bumper here as well. I’m not sure where we’ll go after here. If the ground is soft enough in Leopardstown he’ll probably go there. He travels through the soft stuff.
