Oasis looks smart in Curragh opener
It's nice to have an exciting one,. We were surprised she ran as green as she did at Naas but she finished it off well. You could see then she never really got into top gear at all. She was working well at home, and we liked her, but I don't dip the tank at home. I like to just bring them on but nowadays you seem to get lost when you go to the races like that as everyone has them so finely tuned. Some of mine might be out the back first time but they'll improve ten lengths the next day. I like to bring them on that way as I feel you get longer out of them. We thought she'd have a chance of winning today but didn't think she'd win like that. I think she really appreciates a bit of juice in the ground. It wasn't easy to do what she did, coming up the middle of the track like that. I was keen for him to get a bit of cover on her. Thank God we stuck her in the Guineas the other day. We had her in the CL Weld Park Stakes, we had her declared, but took her out in the last five minutes and said we'd try and win a maiden first. I think she probably could have won it off that performance. We'll try and find a black-type race now for her, she'll stay seven.
Crypto Force causes mild surprise in Beresford Stakes
That's massive. I'm delighted for Kia Joorabchian, and AMO Racing, because he's been a big supporter of mine this year and he's let me go away to the breeze-ups and buy some nice horses,. They cost plenty of money. I bought this lad myself and when he won his maiden I told Kia he was going to the London Sale and to be fair to him he didn't force me to sell him to him at home. I brought him to the sale and he paid a lot of money for him. The pressure was very much on me from that point on and it was a massive kick in the guts at Ascot, it just wasn't to be and he just needed that bit more time. To be fair Kia has been very patient, it's 100 days since Ascot but I just wanted to wait. He's a very exciting horse for next year. He doesn't do anything flashy at home, he just does what he needs to do. Colin said he'll probably be better on fast ground. I thought he wanted a mile-and-a-quarter looking at his homework. That's why I was happy to see a bit of rain to make the mile a test. He'll have no problem getting a mile-and-a-quarter but on better ground he'll have that bit more pace. He said he could make up into a Guineas horse over the winter. We won't get carried away with ourselves yet, I thought he won that very well and I'll go back and sit down and talk to Kia. He's by Time Test, out of a Galileo mare, from the family of Youmzain and horses like that. It would be nice to just put him away and train him with next year in mind. He's got the job done today and he's taken a bi
Life is good for McCreery
That's grand to get that done, she had a little setback after a nice run in Cork and she's had three nice runs,. She loves that ease in the ground. We thought the pace was over this side and Rory did a great job of getting her over. The visor just helped the last bit, she's not dishonest though. She minds herself and she looks fantastic every time you see her, she's a big bulky mare. She'll come back here for that six furlong listed race (October 8th), we'll try and get a bit of black-type. The softer the ground the better for her.
Mile proves far too strong for Nursery rivals
I fancied her in Down Royal the last day but she was drawn 11, missed the kick and never got into the race,. Ben said he was forced wide all the way, stayed on well and probably wants a mile but I worked her in blinkers the other day, gave her a sharpener, and they seemed to have brought her alive. It looked like a winnable nursery. She got out there in front, flowing along, and Ben said she did it well. She's a handy filly. She probably ran better than her finishing position the last day and was entitled to be thereabouts today in a race like that. We'll see what the handicapper does and go again. Ben said she liked the ground as well.
Million for export as Galeron takes feature event
It's fantastic and I'm so pleased for Leanne and Gary. They are new into the sport and they are very quick learners. The seem to have really embraced the sport and having a win like that is huge.
Bennett lands Joe McGrath in style
This fella can't go into a stable and we have a companion with him who goes into the stable and Gordon puts his head over and we're able to saddle him,. I think he is getting more professional. I'd love to be able to travel the horse, because he's got into that class now, but it's not easy to organise. Luckily the Curragh has a pile of races for him so he might spend his whole career here. People love the name and he's always too short a price. The fella that he was called after was a mad man in America. His father founded the New York Times and he spent all the money. He founded the Gordon Bennett race which is still commemorated here. The horse walks over the Gordon Bennett race course everyday going to work. There is a sign coming up the hill here, the Gordon Bennett route. We've decided that's it for the year. He's had a great time and there is nothing left. These sprinters seem to get better with age and he's not heavily raced. We'll spend the winter building him up and he could just be stronger again. The great thing is that he's learning to behave a bit. Gary said he was never as calm as today and we noticed it in the yard too. A lot of the quirkiness might be going out of him.
French Rescue an 80-1 surprise in Apprentices Handicap
It wasn't expected, we were disappointed with him in Punchestown but Gary (Halpin) said he needed it,. For a small horse he's very stuffy and he's obviously come forward from the run the last day. If he had finished in the first five or six I would have been happy. Tom said he gave him a great ride and stayed at it really well, and went on the ground. We're thrilled as we were disappointed the last day. He ran well in Gowran and we were happy with him that day. He's probably still a bit babyish. We're only a small yard, with two riding out at the moment, and when he's in among horses he's probably a bit babyish. We'll keep going while there is a bit of juice in the ground as he obviously doesn't seem to have any problem going on it. We're happy with this one and if we could get another one it would be great.
Patience pays off for Half Nutz syndicate
I can't take much credit for it because I was nearly giving up, losing faith in the horse, but the lads (Go Nutz Racing Syndicate) said that he always comes good at the end of the year,. When we got him he worked like a really good horse, his work was very good. We fancied him a few times and I was disappointed but the lads said to hang in there as it takes him a while and he clicks into gear. He won very well today. He's very straight-forward but it just didn't fall right for him a few times. I was very happy with the way he ran in Listowel, he didn't get much of a run there. Even in Laytown he clipped heels at a vital stage. The experience of Laytown sometimes rejuvenates these kinds of horses. He's a horse that has to be ridden for luck, it didn't happen in Listowel but it happened today.
