Taaffe charge Storms home in opener
I like this horse and if he’s half as good as some of the horses that have won this race in the past ten years he’ll be fine,. Un De Sceaux, Sir Des Champs, Cause Of Causes and Sublimity have all won this race. He’s a true chaser. He got out-battled by a horse that knew how to battle the last day. I told JJ to not be afraid to go on from the turn and he’ll stay galloping. If he didn’t miss the last he would probably have won by a few more lengths. He’s a lovely big horse with a great page but just needs to grow up. He’ll go chasing next season.
Left another well backed winner
Hareth proves tough in the mud at Navan
We knew he was tough. They went a fierce gallop on the ground and he was nearly first off the bridle. He ran well the last day and came on from the run,. It’s a great pot today and it’s job done now. He’s by Jeremy and they love that ground, and also he’d bottom weight so there were a lot of positives.
Hours lasts it out under strong Hand
He can be a bit keen but we knew he stayed three miles so we said we might as well let him go on. The last 50 yards was a struggle but they are tired horses,. Michael Rice (owner/breeder) is a timber merchant from Dundalk.
Bonbon leads home Mullins 1-2-3
It’s getting so late in the season that I wanted to get a few horses out,. The experience that Bonbon Au Miel had from the last day was a help and the ground suited him. Turcagua ran well and jumped great and he could go into a Graded chase now with that run under his belt. Cadmium jumped way better than I expected and I hope that he’ll have no trouble with his beginners. The late rain that we had probably made the ground a bit looser and it’s fresh so it gave them a chance. Bonbon Au Miel will be going up in trip rather than back, and may come back here next month for the (Grade 2 Ten Up) three-mile novice chase (February 18).
Atya takes three-miler in style
At Limerick the ground didn’t help but it was looser today. He got his own way in front and James gave him a super ride,. It was a very poor race but it’s great to get a winner again. His American owners, Eustace Theodore and Karen Anderson, have been great supporters.
Elliott has to wait for Navan winner with Turf
He’s a nice big horse but he’s a horse for the future. We’ll mind him this year and keep him for next year,. We knew he’d come on a good bit from the last day so we were happy enough. He stays very well. We normally don’t have to wait until the last race at Navan to have a winner but we knew it would be tough enough today. He might go for a winners’ bumper but he won’t do too much more.
