Nolan & Cooper back in big time with Exhibition
“This guy in fairness to him, he races behind the bridle a little bit but he digs down deep. He done it there today on ground that's the quickest he's ran on. “He's not going to kick away and win ten lengths. He won his bumper easily enough but he always has to work that little bit regardless of the trip. “He proved against Abacadabras that he needed to step up from two miles at least. He's proven he can go on any ground, he's no slow by any means, he has a good cruising gear. “He doesn't lose too much ground when they do quicken. Rachael gave him a great ride that day but he just wasn't man enough and didn't know enough. I'd say if he went two miles again you'd have to make plenty of use of him.” When asked if the Albert Bartlett would now be on the agenda he added:- “We'll talk about that. I'd say yes but we'll leave our options open and we'll run the horse in the best race for him. “We'll talk with Bryan, he's the one that's going to be riding him, so he'll know more than us.”
Chacun 'electric' in Dublin Chase
He was electric jumping. Jumping those fences down the back he was so slick and so fast. He was getting a length or a length-and-a-half at every fence without any effort,. Paul said he just arrived up beside Min at the third last and he didn't want to hang around so just kept going. He idled, which is a good sign I think. It just shows how much he improved since Christmas. All that worked out and he was here today in top form. It's a nice prize to win. Min was the horse to beat in the race. It was a tough choice for Paul to make, looking at the race afterwards you'd say maybe it wasn't. To me Min was the one to beat but he didn't get things his own way with Ornua up there. If Ornua hadn't been there it would have been a much closer contest I think. Chacun Pour Soi looks the horse of the future and I think that's why Paul made the decision, he thought this was the horse that was coming up. The first day I brought him up here for Cheltenham trials day last year I let him go around with a few of ours. I said to Danny, who rode him then, to follow around but after two fences he was in front and led all the Cheltenham horses. It was absolutely eye-opening. Once every two or three years you get a horse coming up the gallop that shows you something that he shouldn't be able to do and that's what he did that day. First day here over fences he had handicap chasers and Grade One horses behind him and he was a novice. I said 'wow we could have something here' and he's turned out
Notebook digs deep to fend off Cash in Arkle
“He had to tough it out and he jumped brilliant. Cash Back gave us some race there,” said de Bromhead. “I didn't think he jumped to his right as much as at Christmas, he was very good today. “A few of ours have improved a lot over fences through the years. Special Tiara was a 116 hurdler and Ordinary was 118. “Some of them need a fence and you saw his jumping out there, he's a dream and he just seems to love it. Also I was running him over the wrong trip for most of last year! “He'll go straight to the Arkle and fingers crossed we get a clear run. “He seems to have won on everything but he's probably marginally better on better ground. “It was a super ride from Rachael and some race, lucky we came out on top. “We've five weeks now so we'll freshen him up and try and have him as right as we can.”
Beaufeu lands big pot on his first handicap start over fences
It’s great to get a winner. I knew today was going to be a tough day - we had a few each-way chances. He tried Graded company and wasn’t good enough so it’s nice to win a good handicap. I’d also like to say a big well done to Olly Murphy who trained his first Grade 1 winner today with Itchy Feet at Sandown. We’re still good friends and I’ll give him a ring later.
Honeysuckle blossoms in Irish Champion Hurdle
“She just looked like she got a bit lonely going to the last. She's so tough and the lady on top of her is so tough. She really battled it out,” said de Bromhead. “All credit to Petit Mouchoir and Davy Russell, he ran a brilliant race again and Gavin's horse looked very good. “I had my heart in my mouth coming to the line. She probably needed it and our two went at it fairly early. “Talk about adapting to two miles, she seemed brilliant. I thought she jumped well to be fair, maybe at the second Patrick jumped past her. “At the second last I'm not sure if Rachael sat on her and Davy go a good jump or if she make a mistake. I think she was just lonely in front at the last.” “Rachael is brilliant and I always say that we are very lucky to have her. She's just riding out of her skin and the mare is deadly.” When asked where she would go from here he added:- “We'll enjoy today. We've won PCI Irish Champion Hurdle and we can discuss all that in time. I'm delighted to get today behind us.” “We're very lucky to have these horses and get supported by great clients and we have a great team around us.”
Byrnes lands Ladbrokes Hurdle for third year running
Dromlease Express won the race 16 years ago, ridden by Johnny Allen who is now champion jockey in Australia, and Off You Go won it the previous two years. They are all two and a half mile horses and that’s what you need for the race. I was going to go to Ascot but the English handicapper stuck him up 6lb for no reason so I said I’d stay at home then. I thought if he was close enough coming to the last that he would be hard to beat. He loves nice ground as well which was a plus. We’ll consider something like the Coral Cup and there is a big bonus there now so that would twist my arm towards that race. He’s already won a chase so he can mix it in the future with handicap chases and hurdles.
Appreciate impressive in concluding bumper
“It was very impressive. The way he put away a field of what looked the best bumper horses in Ireland did surprise me but Patrick had way more confidence in him than I had. “He was keen on him all the time. I thought it was a very tough race. “I wasn't as worried about the trip as a lot of people were. It so happened it was a two-and-a-half mile bumper at Christmas that he ran in. He didn't need the trip then, he's fast enough. “He looked like a Cheltenham type for me anyway. It was a very good performance and I'm very pleased.”
