Makitorix impresses on Irish debut
He looks a nice recruit and we’ll go down the novice route with him. He will probably stay at the minimum trip but I wouldn’t be afraid to move him up in trip either. I was pleased the way he handled that type of ground for a Flat horse. I know he won on heavy in France but it’s a different type of ground.
Meehan on the mark again for Elliott
Mayo on a high after Winters win with Granny
She is tough and stays well. She will go over fences in time.
Highland Fling doubles up at Listowel
Barry seen to good effect on Icantsay
He’s way better over fences obviously. That wouldn’t have been the strongest handicap chase ever but it’s great to win it. He was only beaten a length and a half in a hurdle race here two days ago, and that would probably have taken a little of the edge off him. Johnny Barry gave him an absolute peach of a ride. I asked him to give him a few breathers and give him a chance. He took him right back and filled him. He was very good.
Mahler presents Ryan with 17/1 double
Danny gave her a good ride and she’s a mare in great form. She had a lovely light weight and goes on that ground. The others seemingly didn’t, and hopefully the handicapper won’t be too hard on her. My daughter Gillian won a bumper on her at Limerick, and she’s a black type mare as she was second in a Listed chase in Wexford. She’s a proper mare, and will be a lovely one to go to stud in a few years.
Rathvinden impresses in novice chase
He did a nice piece of work this week so we thought he might be in better form than he was in Killarney. We will do more of the same with him and there would be no trouble going up in trip. He was getting lengths at some of his fences. He jumps and stays and I just hope he stays right after all the trouble that he’s had.
Mullins sweeps Listowel awards with treble
I was surprised how well he handled that ground. He’s a horse that doesn’t work well at home and is obviously one of those that likes the track better. It looks like he could be a good staying prospect and we will go over hurdles with him now. Patrick said he was just a different horse today. Down at the start he was very fresh and free, and wanted to get on with the job. Maybe the penny has just dropped with him.
