Herds Garden left clear in dramatic opener
every time he's ever run we fancied him, even the day he was beaten by Shaneshill. He has always shown us loads of toe but has just disappointed. He's started the season well though and hopefully he stays right. He's a nice horse and will hopefully carry on from there. Originally we thought he wanted it very soft but he seemed to quicken up well there.
Sheamus completes hat-trick for Hughes
it's a nice one for the owners who previously owned Schindlers Hunt and it'll give the boss a good tonic. He was listening to it and was delighted. we've always thought an awful lot of him and he just needed time. He was good in his two bumpers and we were hoping he'd do that today. Mark (Enright) said they went a little slow for him and in a stronger run race we won't need to make as much use of him.
King Of Brega moves to conquer Fairyhouse
we've have been dying to get him jumping fences as he's nearly 17 hands!. Maybe I've been running this lad over the wrong trip and two miles or two-and-a-quarter is what he wants -the only thing that beat him the other day over hurdles in Gowran was the ground. He is from the same family as Chow Mein, who Dessie Hughes trained for us to win a Galway Plate (in 1985).
Painted Lady has her picture taken!
she's been wanting fences and is a brilliant jumper. She's never been ungenuine but is a little quirky and we have the starts organised now, taking her in late. Robbie said four out she left him sitting on her tail and said he's never had a ride like that in a beginners chase before! I bought her from (show jumper) Nick Skelton and I'd say she was very well schooled as a three-year-old!. We'll keep her to mares chases from two-and-a-half miles upwards.
Forjoethepainter scores 20/1 upset
he's been a bit disappointing the last couple of times but this past week he's been great at home and his work was good. He has his days - one day he'll be good and then he'll disappoint but I thought today he'd be hard to keep out of the first four. He's not a bad horse in this grade and hopefully he can follow up. We could also send him back over fences at some stage.
Enright completes double on Hanlon's Act
he's probably a 115 or 116 horse over fences so off that mark over hurdles he's entitled to win. The other day in Tramore he was too keen and never got time to settle. He's in again at Punchestown on Thursday; he's after being busy but if he comes out of this fresh, he might see another day out. He's in the November sales and the Mees (owners) always send two or three to the sales and he's one they picked out. He's one I wouldn't like to lose but they always replace them.
Meade records Fairyhouse double
that went according to plan. He was second on his first run and it's very hard to get a horse from the sales ring to that race but the Land Rover usually turns out a good race. He stays well and Nina said he's maybe a bit ground dependent, in that he wants goodish ground and wouldn't want it heavy. He's small enough but is very well bred. We could look at the winners bumper at Down Royal for him.
