Hammersmith makes all to win for Nash & Brouder
That's a long time coming. When I sold him to the owners (Michael and John O’Flynn) I didn't think we'd be waiting this long for him to win a maiden hurdle. Michael O'Flynn was very nice to him the other evening after he ran in the north as he called him a rogue while I was being a bit stronger!. We'll probably have to stay away from the Flat. He had two wind-ops and his old confidence has gone. His work has always been very good and maybe he might get a bit of confidence back after that. Obviously he wants real nice ground. He's a fine big horse that jumps fabulous and we'll try and find him a little winners race somewhere. There might be something in Listowel. It'll get a bit tougher with him from here but it's nice to go and win a maiden eventually.
Son Of Hypnos wins for the Smiths
My heart was in my mouth for a second coming to the second last. When he got out and got room he did it well. I think he'll get further. That was great and I'm delighted for my father (owner Kevin senior). He won on the Flat here as well when (brother) Matthew had him. We'll wait and see what the handicapper does now before making a plan, we have a couple of things in mind.
Another win at Galway for Macgiloney
That's not the way to ride him but I had no choice as there was no pace,. I was desperate for Darragh (O’Keeffe, on Holymacapony) to give me a hand out but he was cute enough and pulled back. He was putting down and didn't get going until something came up on his outside and shoved him on. After a couple of cracks it was away with him. He gave the last loads of air and I had plenty of horse. That's even a bit short for him, he'd love extended distances like three-mile-one or two. He's probably a horse for some of those summer nationals like the Midlands National.
Tullyhogue Fort off the mark under Sean O'Keeffe
O'Connor seen to good effect on Molloy's mare
She's a nice mare, I thought she'd go close in a bumper but it didn't really happen. Then we went over hurdles and she had a few niggly little problems which thankfully all came right for today. Galway is lovely, I love the place so it's a special day any day you win here and with Derek O'Connor riding as well it's a pleasure. We'll keep it small and simple with her. She's at a level and we'll see what we can find for her.
Sean O'Keeffe completes 22/1 double on Breakeven
We were coming up here to get a run and maybe finish third or fourth behind some of those other horses and we ended up being the favourite. He got the job done there without being too spectacular I thought. He jumped well, of course he was a point-to-pointer so that was a big help. We'll potter away and he could maybe come back here next year for the festival. We could keep him on the go up to Christmas and he'd have a break then as he's not in love with the heavy stuff.
Last gasp win for Gainford on Doldido
The ground was probably too tacky for him in Sligo (sixth over hurdles) because he had to pull himself out of it a bit. I said to Jordan today to let him fill himself up down the hill. When he sees horses around him he sulks a bit and he gave him a peach of a ride. He gave him a bit of light and then got up the inside turning for home. He has had plenty of runs and it's only his third win but he's there or thereabouts the whole time.
De Lady In Red wins on first start for Connell
That's a nice start. She had very good hurdles form and we weren't sure whether she'd be a bumper mare or not as she probably wants a trip. He had to go to the castle to pull her up so she's probably done well to win over two miles. We'll go back hurdling with her now. I think there is a mares’ hurdles in Roscommon after Listowel and we might look at that. She's going to handle winter ground as well, she's not just a summer mare. For a handy enough mare she jumps well. It was grand to get that job done. She's tough, she had to battle at the end of it. I thought coming down the hill she had everything cooked but she had to pull it out in the end.
