Michaelmas lands the odds in opener
He did it nicely. He was still green in front,. There is a winners race in Naas (15th May) he might go for. He was lazy and idling away and that's why he let him gallop along. I thought he won well enough.
Scotland rallies for game win
He was game and is a grand horse,. It's great to get a winner here. The horses are well and are running well. He's in tomorrow (at Navan) and we'll see how he pulls out in the morning. Of my last ten runners nine have been in the first four and he was the only one out of the money when his saddle slipped in Gowran.
No problems for Camelot on his return
I'm delighted with that. He had big colic surgery during the winter and you never really know what way they will back from that. He is all class and he has great speed. I know he got a mile and a half last year but he has a lot of speed. Joseph said that he was seventy per cent fit today and the Tattersalls Gold Cup remains the plan. It was major open surgery that he had and after it he wasn't with us for months. He was in Coolmore and I was surprised the shape he came back to us in. That type of surgery is massive and we are lucky to have him back.
Valbucca wins again on seasonal debut
I thought the ground might be a bit dead for her but she is an honest filly. She will go for a fillies handicap next at Navan on the 19th (of May). Pat (owner/breeder Peat Cosgrove) actually bought her as a companion for another horse he has with me, Kanes Pass.
Sruthan impresses in Tetrarch Stakes
That was good, he was impressive. Chris said the other horses were getting in his way three furlongs out. I thought it was a big ask for him on his second run but I was still confident he'd run well, I didn't think he would do that. He didn't mind the ground and he will be better on better ground. We were ready to run him last season but just weren't happy with him. We gelded him and within a week he was a different horse, so much more straightforward, so we couldn't regret doing it. The Hyland's sold him (after he won at Dundalk) but they are still good clients of mine and have Srucahan to run this season. They still have the dam at home and two full-sisters and this fellow has done a lot for the family. I'll chat to the owner (Robert Ng) now, he is a new owner and I'm delighted for him. I don't know where he will go next but we always thought a bit of him and aiming high I think he could be a Jersey Stakes horse. He will stay a mile as well.
1000 Guineas next up for Viztoria
It was a nice trial. We had three questions that needed answering today. One, had she trained on and she has. Two, would she get seven furlongs, and she did and three, is she worth taking a chance on in the Guineas and she is. I wouldn't jump up and down about the form but the manner of victory was good. Johnny was happy with her and her trainer is not unhappy.
Orchid another success for Roper
She's as genuine as they come,. Herself and Ondeafears are out of half-sisters. Carol (Roper) bred them all and has great patience with them. She's tough and genuine and it's lovely to win one at the Curragh with her. That seems to be her trip. Seven is a good trip.
Germany makes all in Curragh finale
He improved an awful lot for the good ground. To be honest I didn't think he would be up to that as he is more of a stayer.
