Donoghue's good run continues on Gilligan's Varna Gold
He has improved with every run and it was a pity the last day when he came down as he was booked for third. Going down to the last today I was hoping he wouldn't do anything silly or miss but he picked up and quickened well. It would have been nice if one of our own lads had ridden him but Keith (Donoghue) gave him a great ride. It's great for Gay and Dymphna Keeley (owners) and Gay rang me one day to see if there was any horse for sale around and this horse was bought from Andrew Lynch (jockey). Andrew is a good buddy of mine and he recommended him for selling. He is versatile ground-wise and I'd say he'll go on soft ground. The job is done with him now and we'll see what happens.
Walking Fame off the mark over hurdles for Taaffe and Slevin
She is now finished for the rest of the season and will go chasing next year. She is a big old-fashioned chaser and I'm delighted for the owner Olivia O'Reilly who is here today.
Quarry Lil another win for the O'Flynns at Killarney
Cromwell's Western Run on an upward curve
He was unlucky not to win a bumper and did it well in a maiden hurdle at Downpatrick. We came here hoping he'd go and do it again and he is improving with every run. We'll see if the handicapper leaves him alone or gives him a few pounds and we'll make a plan then. He is definitely one to look forward to though. He should be all right on winter ground but we'll take our time and see.
Not So Simple for Slevin without his whip but Lee's charge prevails
It was a very welcome winner as our horses got sick a year and a half ago and we haven't had a winner in that time. We hadn't a horse in the stable a year ago because we had to clear them out and it is great to get that winner. It is a credit to the lads at home who work every day and JJ (Slevin) gave him a great ride. It's great for John and Rose Devitt (winning owners) who are great supporters of the yard; it's onwards and upwards.
