Sherpa climbs to the top at Roscommon
He always worked nicely enough at home and he was a little bit disappointing on his first two runs, maybe he's just a little bit of a slow learner,. I thought he done it well today, he was green when he got to the front. I wasn't sure about the ground the last day at the Curragh, I thought he wanted better ground, but he seemed to handle it better today.
Helvic has Meade dreaming of Foran Equine Final
He ran well the first day over five, and he hadn't been showing us much at all at home before we ran him,. In Galway he got into a little bit of trouble but Colin (Keane) has loved him all the time. He just couldn't ride today because he had to ride for Ger (Lyons). He was pretty confident that he was a pretty decent horse. I'd imagine he'll go for the final of this series and we'll probably give him another run before that. He's thriving all the time. He's going the right way and hopefully he'll keep going that way. I'd say the ground was an advantage to him. I felt that he mightn't be a real fast ground horse and it wasn't a disadvantage that easy ground. I bought him off Joanna Morgan and she told me 'you have to buy him'. She was right anyway. He hasn't got a great pedigree but he's a very good looking horse, big and strong. Finbar (Cahill) is probably one of the luckiest owners I've ever had and he's been with me from the beginning. He owned one of the real good horses we had at the beginning, Pinch Hitter, who won two Galway Hurdles. He owns half of Dadoozdart and anything he touches seem to be lucky and Tom Hendron who is the other owner had horses with me years ago and he's been a lucky owner too.
Amy gets a deserved win to her name
We'd been waiting for that and she won as she should. She's a nice filly, we were worried about the ground but she seems to handle it and seven to a mile is her trip,. She's owned/bred by Alfred (Sweetnam) and I think she might go forward after that. I don't know how good that maiden was but she's been second three times, we thought we were a bit unlucky, but she's done it today and you have to win your maiden now at three to go to stud. We're happy with her.
Cyrus defies top-weight under 'hard working' Glynn
It's great for Alan, who is a hard worker in the yard. He's been with me a while now and is really starting to improve,. It's great for him to get a winner and he really deserves a chance because he's dedicated, hard working and a pleasure to work with. Cyrus won on the beach and had form at Limerick last year on softer ground. He's versatile enough. I'm not sure if he'll go back to Laytown, there might be something there for him. It's a good syndicate (Westerners Syndicate) of lads from Mayo, they couldn't win an All-Ireland but at least they could win here!. They paid 11 grand for him last year and he's won twice now and been placed a few times, he was third in Galway to Make A Challenge who has boosted the form. I gave him a chance tonight and Alan did exactly what we asked him. Hopefully the handicapper won't be too hard on him. The other filly, Never Rains, ran well too. She travelled well and probably the ground might have caught her out a little at the end.
Manning excels on Cerro Bayo
Scorched Earth finally gets his turn
He did his best to throw it away!. It was a great ride. We dropped him into a handicap as we'd given him enough chances in maidens. How far could he have won, or should he have won. Shane said he was looking at the screen but I said if it wasn't the screen it would have been something else. I don't know how he's managed to stay a colt, he's a full-brother to Washington DC. He's managed to avoid the dreaded cut all summer. I'm normally quick to do it so he's obviously quiet at home. He's won, he likes the soft ground and there is plenty of interest in him to go the other route (jumping). He loves that ground, the softer the better and he was just dossing. Colin would have been unlucky to have gotten his pocket picked but the horse didn't help him.
Dromana blitzes her rivals in Roscommon finale
She handles the soft doesn't she!. I would have been disappointed if she hadn't won a second race. She's been running well and has been a bit unlucky a couple of times. She's been running on good fast ground, suddenly the ground changes and you see a different filly, it's amazing, she loved the ground. That might be her last run as she's going to stud. We've won two now and she'll take a bit of a jump in the ratings so that might be her last run. She's a lovely filly, a real pet with a lovely temperament and she's very consistent. I'm delighted we've won a second race with her. With a filly going to stud the higher the rating the better so we won't give out to the handicapper this time.
