Lady Jane Wilde impresses on debut
I liked this filly all along. She’s been working with all of our handicappers and doing it very easy. She has a lot of speed so I told Niall to take his time because I wasn’t sure if she would stay the seven but she seemed to stay it out well. Where we go from here I’m not sure. She has no entries. We were coming here to have a good experience and hopefully to be in the shake-up. Niall said she handled the ground well. I don’t normally have two-year-olds and Miss Jabeam is my only previous two-year-old maiden winner.
Hiella delights connections with Curragh victory
She fractured her pelvis when she ran as a two-year-old so it’s taken her a while to come back. Niall was very happy with her the last day when she stayed on well. We’ve just been patient and got her fit. I just rang the owner (Martin McHale) who is in Portugal and he’s absolutely delighted. She’s rated 69 so she should be okay in a handicap if he leaves her alone. Hopefully she’ll get a go at a 0-70 handicap.
Murtagh at double and aims high with Know It All
She had a great run the first day (when fourth over course and distance), and has been very straightforward from day one. She’s a massive big filly and I think she’s got an engine. She’s in the Debutante and I think she deserves to take her chance after that. She was a bit fresh today and maybe I could have given her an extra bit during the week. I think she’ll learn from that as it’s only her second run. She’s very calm at home but today she knew what was happening. Hopefully she will improve and we’ll know the next time when we step her up in class. But she has the size, she has the scope and she has an engine.
Mighty Siskin gives Lyons and Keane first domestic Group One
My confidence was shot all week with the rain purely because we knew he was better on a faster gallop. His forte is that burst of speed that he still showed there. I think he’s a very smart horse. Talk of Guineas at this stage is very premature as we are racing over six furlongs in August. Today was to tell us do we step up to seven for the Dewhurst or the National Stakes or do we go Middle Park route. Did we learn anything trip wise? I don’t know. I just learned that this is one good, tough horse. We’ll get together and make a plan with him. I’m delighted to be training for Prince Khalid, and as I’ve said we can’t train Group 1 horses unless we get Group 1 horses. Thankfully in my second season training for this operation I’m after getting a Group 1 horse. What a horse to have — he’s so push button. I was worrying all week listening to every drop of rain falling but the horse just got on and did his job.
Gustavus Weston progressing for Murphy
We always thought he was a good horse and he learned more running in the big handicap (Tote Scurry last time) which crowned him for this race. He’s getting more professional and I think he’s a horse that will progress.
Master Matt Smith's handicappers in good form
He was unlucky last night (in Leopardstown) but that’s the way it goes. I wasn’t sure about the ground tonight as he never really ran on anything worse than good, but he’s a big strong horse and I was happy enough to let him take his chance. He can be a bit of a monkey in the stalls and acted up in Limerick and Down Royal. That’s why he’s loaded last. Billy (Lee) said he doesn’t do a thing when he hits the front.
Ryan rides Solar Wave to last-gasp victory
She doesn’t always break that well but when she does she has a chance. She has a bit of form on better ground but her favourite ground is with a bit of ease. She only has one eye and nobody wanted her at the Sales last month. She is out of a Galileo mare.
