Duff is back to land win number 9
It is great to see him win again. He hadn't won in 2 years as age has caught up on him like the rest of us. He's hit the crossbar a few times. We're delighted to get the win as he is the most popular horse we've ever had. He is still able to shake a leg a bit and that was a fair race there. He loved the trouble in running and he knew where the winning post was. Last time at Doncaster (27 days back) he got hurt. We gave him four easy weeks and brought him back for this.
Patience pays off with Caprella
I think she's a smart filly. Obviously she's a full-sister to Song Of Time and we had her in the first tonight but we didn't declare her. This is probably a better filly as she has a lot of pace. She is still a bit weak and that could be it for her for the year. She'll probably go back to the owners now for the winter. She'll be a nice filly next year when she fills into her frame. The owner, Evelyn Yates is new to us. She is Scottish and we're delighted to have her. She bought the mare when she was carrying this one. Caprella was ready earlier on but she had a little hold-up and Evelyn has been very patient. She is a filly that can be idle enough when she hits the front and it is the same with her at home. She was professional though.
Captain Cullen finds Dundalk to his liking
He's a nice horse and he'll get an entry for the Birdcatcher at Naas (on October 16th), though the ground might be too soft for him then. He's got his maiden now and the bonus (£10K Racing Post Yearling Bonus scheme) and the plan all along was to get the bonus. We'll look at the Birdcatcher now and I don't know about after that.
Bible delivered with perfect timing by Latham
We asked Keagan to hold him up to get the trip. He'd been running over five and six furlongs and there was a little doubt about him getting the seven but he is bred to get it. It was a masterful ride, Keagan rides this track very well. He won well and deserved to get the black-type as he had been threatening all year to get it. We weren't overly shocked to see him win but I don't know what's there for him now. If something came up he could go for it and he is a very easy sort to keep on the go.
Elusive In Paris lands the punt
The owner fancied him. He was to run here the last day but got balloted out. I didn't know if he'd handle the surface but the ground was too soft for him in the Curragh the last day. His run at Leopardstown before that was the first indication that he had ability. We might bring him back here now . if not we'll put him away for the year.
O'Brien earns high praise from Morgan
Joseph is a great rider. He is just so instinctive. He's rode five for us now and that's three winners. That wasn't the plan (always close up and led over four furlongs out). The horse has been disappointing. He had his wind done in the spring and it knocked the stuffing out of him. It took him longer to come back than we had hoped. The owners will be happy as they had a few quid on. Joseph said he loved the surface and he might go hurdling as he is a fine big horse.
Jazz Girl on an upward curve
I expected her to go well. I don't gamble myself but when I saw the price I thought somebody had misjudged things. Gary gave her a brilliant ride and the filly handled the surface and seems to be improving. We'll see what the handicapper does now and take it from there. There are a couple of races on the turf for her and some here. It will depend on the ground as she wants it on the quick side.
Well-backed Missliyna takes Dundalk finale
She ran a lovely race at Cork earlier in the year but she was growing and was weak so we decided to give her a chance. She ran at Roscommon then and got bogged down in the ground . it was really bad there. Shane Foley rode her then and said that she might like it here. She travelled and quickened well and Johnny said he was always happy that she was going to win. She is due to go to the sales but she could come back here before that. As she has plenty of size and scope she should improve again.
