Nail gains deserved win in Gowran opener
He had plenty of experience and we said we'd let him roll along there. He got a lead which was grand and the line came in time,. He's probably one that could win in the north of England or something. He is what he is and he'll be okay. He'll jump a fence in time too.
Saylavee makes big impression on hurdling debut
Rothwell's Express wins readily
The little horse has been great but he has a wind issue. I thought Jack was getting there way too early, I was giving out about him in the stands. To be fair he kept him on the bridle and kept him travelling. There have been so many days when he looks like the winner but just doesn't quite get home. Running down the hill to home here in Gowran suited him and I thought it would work as long as they went quick enough in front of him early on. The race fell apart and it worked out great. He deserved that. He won very well in Kilbeggan last year and went up nearly a stone, he has struggled since but has been running very genuinely and very well. I often feel that horses that are consistently placed won't get their chance again and it's great that he did. He definitely won't run at Killarney on Sunday, after today his tank will be empty.
Bittersweet win for Keoghan with Sea Of Sands
He broke down and he's done now. He got hurt in Tramore about a year ago and we just nursed him back, we thought we'd get a run out of him and we got a couple of runs but he's gone now,. He's right down on his fetlock, it's gone completely. He got the few pound in the bank for the father so I'm more than happy with that, it'll keep him happy. That's the way it goes. I only have one in training and that's it. I only have one or two runners a year and I've had a few point-to-point wins but that's my first on the track. He's a homebred so he might as well spend the rest of his life out in the field now.
Listed winner for Lee & Geoghegan
It's a great result. We said we'd try and steal a march on them. If you are not brave you are nothing in life. Robbie gave her a super ride. He works for me everyday and was in the yard at 6am this morning and we got them out in the pouring rain. We came down and we won the listed race in Gowran so that's all that matters!. She belongs to a good friend of mine, Eddie Naughton, we own her half and half. We always knew she was a decent filly, she had a few little problems early on. That will do her book good and she's a valuable filly now. She's a proper little one. I bought her myself at the sales, as a three-year-old, for handy money. I asked a good few lads to buy her and they wouldn't buy her. Eddie stood in and gave me a good few quid for her so it's great. It pays dividends to have a sound man own her with you as you can do what you like. We were expecting her to be in the first three with a bit of luck because we said we'd take them off their feet. She's a handicapper to jump, she'd jump out of jail for you. We loose school her, we never sit on her back over hurdles. She did it great, we're over the moon. It's great for the lads at home, we've a small team. There are four of us there and we get the thing done. We'll stay small because you get your job done that way.
Hat-trick up for Moving Water
That was great, to get three in a row. I can't remember having a jumping horse doing that, I remember a few Flat horses long ago. He's a lovely horse and he's crying out for three miles. He's had three months off so we'll keep going with him. He wouldn't be one for deep winter ground, unless it was sloppy. We'll see what is decided now. He's a huge big horse, he's a home-bred as well which is lovely. He wasn't bred for this job but he's doing it anyway.'
Foley doubles up and loses claim
I got everything wrong today. The horse we thought would win (Only One Plan) didn't and the other two have won but it's great,. Jack has rode out his claim now on that winner. 90 per cent of the weigh room wouldn't have won on him, I thought it was a brilliant ride. He wasn't simple the whole way around and when he jumped the last he waited and held on to him to get his head in front on the line. I thought it was super and I'm very lucky that he's helping us out a little bit at the moment. He's a very talented rider. It's lovely to get the win, he's owned by a syndicate of guys and the breeder Brendan Caulfield, who is local to me, is part of the syndicate.
Curling's mare lands Listed bumper
said Curling. She's a lovely filly. They bred her (owner Willie Cleary) and it's massive that she's after getting black-type. Her bumper form worked out great and there were excuses the last couple of times. Derek was brilliant on her. He said he had walked it and saw a strip of ground down the inside. We don't tell him what to do!. She'll go back over hurdles now. I'll try and win a maiden first and I won't over-race her, she's been on the go a good while. I'd say it was probably too sharp for her the last day and she needed the run the time before. We'll look for a two-and-a-half mile maiden somewhere.
