Sharjah wins well on Irish debut
He jumped really well. The second last hurdle was bypassed and he quickened up sharply and put the race to bed. It was a nice performance. There is plenty of depth to the ground. I was surprised as I thought it would be loose and sloppy. It'll take a lot of getting all day. We're having a good run with first timers and hopefully that can continue. Hopefully he will improve. He did it very well and I was surprised how well he went on the ground considering his best form seemed to be on the all-weather. He jumped well. He jumped so slick, like a handicapper.
West coasts home under Slevin
He was quite leery and was very green at his hurdles but he's a nice horse and had good bumper form,. He had a good look at the first and he even had a good look at the second last. No harm done though. I was watching it from the stands so it was hard to see but he jumped the fourth last and kind of ended up in front. For his first run over hurdles he was left in front with plenty of time. Still and all it was lovely. He should stay further as well. We'll think about stepping up in trip but he'd definitely be better when we can drop him in a bit more. We'll look for a novice and I don't think we need to go aiming too high yet.
Fairymount Boy gets his turn
Mystic now four from four over flights
She jumped really well and kept galloping through the ground. Good things can come in small packages. She's a decent filly who is going the right direction and, as Airlie Beach won the race last year and went to Down Royal, you'd imagine she'll go there for the novice race on the Friday. I'm very pleased with that because being by King's Theatre you are always worried about that ground. She'll stick to the mares novice programme. We'll see if she can do what Airlie Beach did, win in the north and go back to Fairyhouse, but we'll plan the north first.
Cullen & Loughran on the mark with Dysios
I'm delighted with him. It was his first time over two-and-a-half so it was a bit of a fact finding mission,. It opens up more opportunities for us over fences as well. This year he's been in particularly good form with himself and he's been training very well. He's 119 over hurdles and ran a lovely race in Listowel the last day. Kieron (winning owner Kieron Gammell) is originally from Greystones so hopefully we can get back to Leopardstown. He's won there twice already and has been second this year so that's his Gold Cup. If we can get back there at Christmas in good shape it will be the icing on the cake. We'll do a bit of pot hunting with him. He has a bit of age on his side now. We stripped a bit of weight off him which is better for him as well. We'll mix it now. I was happier to go back hurdling this year after chasing. Sometimes if you mix it too much in their first season they are going down to hurdles and jumping them too big and deliberate. I wanted to get a season chasing before I went back mixing it over hurdles. I said I'd give him the season chasing and then we could mix and match. He could pop up in a couple of those conditions races. He's a big strong horse but I wouldn't like to be giving away a lot of weight in handicaps. All his best form has been on soft or heavy ground so he handles that ground. I'm delighted - it's not easy to get winners.
Ballymadun lands a gamble
We were a bit concerned about the ground but he (Conor Maxwell) said he handled it well,. We gave him a break during the summer and he came back a bit stronger. He said he stayed at it well. He took a bit of time to come and we've been stop go, stop go, with him. We seem to have him now after he strengthened up over the summer. The break has done him well.
Unbeaten Ainsi completes treble for Mullins
That's more like the mare that we see at home than the Galway run. That was very good and we're very pleased with that. I'd imagine I'll probably go jumping with her now as I don't think there's much point at sticking at this. She'd hardly run at Cheltenham as an eight-year-old!. With Glens (Harmony) I'll have a chat with the owner and see what they want to do, to see if they want to go jumping. I'd imagine we'll stick at this and try and win one of these good fillies' bumper and maybe leave the jumping until next year. Patrick will probably want her to stay in bumpers. I'm delighted with the two of them and the other filly probably just didn't handle the ground. We might put her away for a spring/summer campaign. Galway could be on her agenda with Mr Mee as an owner.
