Halford happy to send out another first time scorer
He's a lovely smart horse. We thought he was ready to start, and thought he'd run well, but we weren't sure if he was good enough to win a Derby weekend maiden,. He was professional. He had the benefit of running in a barrier trial at Naas and I suppose that was as good as a run to him. We thought this was a nice place to get him started, on a nice track. Ronan said he just took a heave with him and got a little bit tired. I'd say he's smart. I'd say our two-year-olds might be smart enough. He's only the third one we've run and two have won first time out. I'd say it's a record for me to train two two-year-olds winners first time out!. I thought he'd come on from it as he's like me he thrives. We'll step him up now and could look at something like the Angelsey. He's very straight-forward and Ronan said when the gates opened he knew what to do. The owner is from Hong Kong. We had a horse for him last year, Little Turbo, and he won for us last year. He has two with us this year.
Twilight Payment hits high with Group 2 win at the age of 6
He's a great looker and he has the ability to match the looks,. We'll aim him at the Irish Leger and he'll probably go for the trial race before that. It's amazing, he's a six-year-old and he's still improving.
Supplemented Albigna delivers in Group 2 Airlie Stud Stakes
She got there in the end. Shane said she was outpaced throughout the race and she'd never been so fast in her life but when she got going she was good,. Her class got her there. I thought she was going to be nowhere but then suddenly she took off. It's very bad for my heart!. I've got some nice fillies and I'm very lucky to have them. We'll find races for them. She'll definitely step up to seven, she's not going to go six again, and even at the end of the year she might go a mile. She's in the Moyglare. They are lovely fillies and they will all be three-year-olds, they are bred to be three-year-olds - which is great. I took the punt on Monday and supplemented her. I hadn't got her in this as it had actually closed the day before she won her maiden here. It was money very well spent and it's great when it works.
Crafty Madam gains important win in valuable fillies handicap
On first impression I thought we were just chinned. I was about to shake hands with Mick Halford and congratulate him,. She's owned by Con Harrington, who used to be our landlord, and he's a good supporter. He's over from London for the day and he's delighted as she's a filly with a big pedigree. She's a half-sister to Profitable so she's a very important filly for the breeding shed going forward. We've a little bit to go in the ratings but we'll try for a bit of black-type along the way. That's a great pot to win and we're delighted to win on Derby weekend. Niall is riding with great confidence. He rides work for us and has always been a very good rider, he's a classic winning rider. With 8-4 he was always going to ride her. He's given her some ride. She had a lovely run for us at Leopardstown. Billy (Lee) rode her to get a feel and see where she'd fall in because she wouldn't be working savage or anything. She met a bit of traffic and ran on very well. She's obviously come forward from there. I felt we might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb and go for the big prize-money. After Leopardstown I said we'd keep her for this. I was just a little worried that the ground was getting a bit tight for her, and drying out, but Niall said we got away with it.
Group One glory for Iridessa in the Pretty Polly
Well-supported Baladiya lives up to Weld's expectations
She's a brave filly and she did what we hoped she might do,.
McCullagh doubles up at the Curragh for in-form Oxx
The horses are running well. They are doing their best and are in good health,. This fella started off the year well and had two good runs, over a mile at Navan which was too short, and then just beaten a couple of heads in Cork at this distance. We decided then to be clever and stretch him out to see if he would be better but that didn't work. I'd say that's his ideal trip and he likes a big track, he has a big stride and is a big horse. We'll keep him to some similar.
