McAuley wins Dundalk's opening Claimer
I think one of my other horses drove her mad in the stable yard when she ran last week! . She's normally grand to tack up but was difficult and gave Sam a terrible spin and she was far too keen. We kept her much quieter today, just hunted away. She's not too bad, especially for that grade but I wouldn't say it was a great race. I wouldn't be under any illusions about how strong a race it was and the trip was too short for the favourite (stablemate Here And Now, 13/8f). It's grand to get another win out of her and if someone takes her they take her. She's done a good job for us. To be fair Shane Lyons (brother and assistant to trainer Ger Lyons) and Sam both told us she was well worth taking the day we claimed her and she's won twice for us now.
Consecutive successes for apprentice Horgan
we're delighted. He's very consistent and all the lads have ridden winners on him, Andrew (Slattery junior), Ben and Jake (the Coen brothers) and now Cian so it's brilliant. We found that they were going a bit too slow for him in the 1m4f races, inevitably he misses the break everyday and they went hard today and the race suited him - he needs a strong pace. Cian gave him a lovely ride, that's only his ninth ride and that was a very good ride.

Browne McMonagle loses claim at Dundalk
it's great for Dylan as he's lost his claim but can still ride in apprentice races for the season, which is great. It's great for the horse and I think the idea, by what Joseph said the other day, is that he'll probably go to Doha. It's about three weeks time which is ideal timing and he'll come on from that run as well. That will do him the world of good and bring him on. Khalif, who owns him, is from there. He spends a lot of time in Ireland with Joseph and in the UK.
Joseph O'Brien completes Dundalk double
she stayed the trip well and I think she'll get further. She had a few niggles last year and only got the one run but on her best placed form she was good enough to win that. Joseph will take his time with her now and try and get her some black-type, she has a lovely pedigree and is going to be a nice broodmare in time. I'd say she'll sharpen up a lot from that having only had the one run last year. Onwards and upwards.
Skillful ride on Resourceful Man
he had run well here last year a few times and we gave him a break and he came back fresh and well. He enjoyed the trip, he's won over six but he enjoyed the seven. It gives us a few more options and we'll see where we go now. It's nice to get a winner. It's nice that Trevor (Dalzell, owner) is here as well.
Lynam doubles up with 'happy horse'
he's a good old servant and he's a very popular horse in the yard. He leads the string most mornings and he's a happy horse. he doesn't win that often but he wasn't winning out of turn as he ran well the last day. He's in again on Wednesday and he might run again, we'll see how he is.
