Firm proves tough in Sligo opener
He's going to come on from it as well. He seems to have improved and strengthened up a bit. He was always going to be a nice horse but he's probably going to be a bit better this year. That trip was as sharp as he'd want, especially around a track like this, and he'll be better over further. Two miles is as short as he wants but he's a grand horse and he toughed it out well. We'll probably go chasing with him.
Belle lunges late to score again
Nothing seemed to be going right early on. She made a few mistakes, probably because she wasn't travelling, and I was wondering if maybe the trip was a bit short for her, but there's only one place to be in front and that's the winning post. I declared her on yielding ground because she had won on something similar at Cork, and after I walked the track I rang the owner who's based in Boston and said that we'd take our chance. She seemed in good form after Cork and battled well. I thought Brian gave her a brilliant ride. She's been busy and has done well for us so we might put her away until the spring, she probably doesn't want deep winter ground.
Cromwell on the mark at Sligo as well
Today is the Day for Cawley's charge
I'm delighted for Eddie. He has plenty of horses and puts a lot into the game. He's from Enniscrone so this is a local winner for him. He had run well here a year ago but had never repeated that. I put blinkers on him the last day at Galway and Jordan Gainford rode him. He said to drop him back to two and a half miles on soft ground and that he'd ride him again. Jordan's in Cheltenham today so he'll be kicking himself to have missed a winner but that's the way the cookie crumbles. I told Sean to blast him out and see can he stay there. Very few stay here in Sligo because it's such a tough track but we knew he'd get home over this trip.
Will Do gets the job done with minimum of fuss
He jumped great apart from missing one down the back the last time. I was delighted to see something going on after a few hurdles just to give him a bit of a lead. He's a nice horse and he'll probably be better suited by a more galloping track. He was just ready to start off and Jack said there's plenty of improvement in him. He's a chaser down the road, he has a good attitude and is very relaxed. Anything from 2m6f to three miles should suit him and he'll probably step up to Listed or Graded company now.
Veteran Drumcliff enjoys his day out in Sligo
Will Wilde takes Sligo finale for Doyle & Gleeson
He's a lovely horse by Martaline who's my favourite stallion. He was badly wrong in Punchestown. I went there because he was a good horse but he scoped wrong afterwards. My horses were suffering from the rape at the time. I had a bad dose of it and a lot of horses that ran bad have run well since, so that gave me confidence that this fellow would go well. He's a beautiful big galloping horse. John (Gleeson) said there was going to be no pace, so I said you're on a big galloping horse with a big stride, so on you go and keep it simple. He'll probably end up needing a trip when he goes hurdling.
