Express steams home to spring 25/1 surprise
I can't say that was expected,. I was at Goffs sales and he was walking around the ring and I looked in and said 'god I know that horse'. He was on a loose page and I didn't have it with the catalogue. I heard the auctioneer say Reddot Express and he was only making two grand so I said sure we'll have him. I stuck up my catalogue and he eventually took three grand off me and knocked him down. I actually bought him as we have a couple of apprentices there and I thought he'd get them going. We were scratching our head a bit and we brought him along as he was in great shape. It's a pleasant surprise. He won six grand there and he cost three so that's not bad. How good a race it was time will only tell but he was the best of them on the night which is the important thing. Some lad might rob him on me for five grand but anytime I can turn three grand into eleven I'm happy. If he's claimed he's claimed. He's a great old horse and has always been a good servant.
Lyons team expects and Joke delivers
It's a nice one to get us back. He's been working well at home but we just haven't been able to run him because he's rated 66 and there were only 0-65s,.
Silk Cravat wins on debut for Geoghegan
Guineas trial on the cards now for Zihba
He did it well. He's still a work in progress and he probably needed the run a bit there with all the hold-ups with the weather,. He did it quite well as he's giving the runner-up 15lb. Chris said he just gave a bit of a heave with him about two-and-a-half down and then got his second wind and ran on. He'll probably go for a Guineas trial somewhere. I'd say he wants fast ground.
Lady Rosebud beats better touted rivals
Killian has ridden a few winners for me but that's as good a ride as he's given any horse for me,. We've had issues losing ground at the start and a lot of it is if she goes in a bit early. She gets a bit on her toe and stupid. We managed to go in last tonight which helped. She's never had as good a position after two furlongs than she had tonight. She battled well. I knew Ado's horse was well fancied and it was a right good battle for the last furlong-and-a-half. Killian felt he was always going to get there but I wasn't as convinced as he was. I think the rail made a difference. She's a good tough honest filly. She's had a bit of ground to make up in some of her last few starts. Her mother was a great old servant, and got better as she got older, so she might do the same thing. We like this filly and she's been a great servant.
Versatile Dream gets an Irish win on the board
I think it was set up for him as they went so quick in front and then stopped,. He was ridden conservatively and it played into his hands. He's a good horse, he has plenty of ability, and that's his fourth win. I don't know where we'll go from here. We were considering going hurdling but at this stage of his life I think we'll stick to the Flat with him. He's seven now. He could probably run well in a good handicap off a low weight. He travels very well. That's his first win at this trip so it opens up a few more possibilities. We thought he might be slightly better on turf but he's won on tapeta, won on this and has won on turf so he seems to win on everything.
High Street steps up as odds-on debutant fails
She ran a lovely race here the last night and it's a great bunch of lads involved in her, including a couple of friends from my home-town,. She ran a nice promising race the other night and obviously came on a lot from it. It was lovely. She met a very good one the first day but ran a real nice race, improved off it and you couldn't ask her to do any more than she did tonight. It's only a Dundalk maiden. She's not over-big and she's not anything special but we'll get her home, see what she's like in a few weeks and go from there. Tonight was the important one.
Champ Keane doubles up to earn high praise from Hogan
Colin gave him a super ride. Pat (Smullen) rode him here last week and told us to do that, drop him back two and bounce him out,. He got the pace perfect tonight and got him away from the gates and clean on to the rails. It was a super ride. It's great that all the horses keep running well and I couldn't be happier with the way things are going at the moment. We had said after last Friday that we'd go jumping and forget about here but with the ground being the way it is we have to wait until it dries up to go back jumping. He looks like he's probably well treated over hurdles for the summer now and he'll be a good fun horse for the summer.
