Susan battles gamely to beat market leaders
She needed the break, the last day the ground was terrible. We gave her a good break and she is only back in six weeks. We thought she was working fairly well. I was coming with the other lad (Fort Montagu) and I said I would bring her and I'm glad I did. Mark said she has improved a lot from the spring. She jumped great, she would rather have those hurdles. They are cracking hurdles. We have a lot of options with her. If she stays winning hurdle races we will keep her at that. I loved her from day one. She's a half sister to that filly that Gordon Elliott had that got the black type earlier in the year (Three Swallowsnick). She's a good mare and I bought her in Goffs as a yearling and loved her always.
Boy makes the breakthrough over hurdles
Rashaan gets the job done
He's tough and he only does what he has to do, he still gets the job done. I was a bit nervous now saddling an odds-on chance. The plan I would imagine now is to either run in the Grade Three hurdle in Tipperary in two weeks or there is another two and a half mile conditions hurdle in Cork in three weeks for ones that haven't won more than two since last May so he would be well in in that as well. The immediate plan after that is to go for the amateur riders race on the Monday of Galway. Sean (Flanagan) said they didn't go fast enough for him and if they had gone faster he would have been better. I see there he pulled a shoe coming in as well. He got the job done and he was the best horse in the race and he was entitled to do it.
McParlan & McBratney combine with Triolet
He was serious today. The last two times he has been beaten it has been pure speed that beat him. He didn'' get the run of the race in Punchestown and actually didn't today. Noel gave him a fantastic ride to switch to the inner and go for a gap down the inside. He had the horse to go and do it. Maybe we were making too much use of the horse, he showed there he has a turn of foot. There were no Galileo's there tonight that were going to come and do him for speed! Noel thought one thing - to make sure he set sail as soon as he can and take the speed out of them behind. I'm delighted for Noel and the boys. There's a nice handicap hurdle in Perth on the 16th of July worth a few quid. It's a 0-115 so they may not even let him into it. The Monkey Formula Syndicate are all from Belfast and are great lads. It's their first venture into a horse. Simon Maxwell heads it up and he knows form, he reads form inside out. He's always right!. He'll jump a fence in time, I would say before the end of the summer.
Dunne brothers on the mark with Colla
That was brilliant. Fair play to David, he said to me coming up that she would run well. The ground made the difference to her. She deserved that over fences - unfortunately she was left at the start the last day in Perth (and finished third). Robbie said she was running away everywhere (today).
