Oliver reveals dual-purpose ambitions
the whole focus of what I’ve been doing in recent times has been to give myself dual-purpose (flat & jumps) capacity. I used to train national hunt horses and had plenty success at it and enjoyed it but we evolved more into flat. Now I’m trying to move towards dual-purpose and it allows the yard to continue all year around. There’s a great interest in national hunt up here which you have to be able to cater for. In recent times, we refurbished my original gallop and we built a new seven furlong gallop which gives us three different gallops to use. It allows us every option for every type of horse and at my recent Open Day, there seemed to be positive feedback and we’ll see what comes out of it. This (Scotch Beg) is my only jumper at the moment but we’ll have some three year olds who will convert to hurdlers.
Owner enjoys Magical first visit to D'patrick
we were planning on this being her last run but J.J. said she loved the ground so we'll maybe get another run. She jumped lovely but had a bit of experience from point-to-pointing and was good and loves it here. She wouldn't be a star at home but she keeps her best for here. Her owner John Devaney is from London.
Carberry delivers a 'push present' of her own!
it’s fantastic, she's unreal and going out, had her mind made up she was going round the inside. She said he (Roseriver Has) found more when she put the whip down: I’ll have to see it again but she said he was curling up a little bit when she hit him. The lad (Cask Mate) won very easily yesterday and I thought this was near enough the same sort of horse although I was a shade worried about the ground. He's not too big but he jumps well and will go jumping now.
