Champion Keane collects in Cork's opening maiden
we were disappointed he got beaten the last day but it rained, the ground became a little slow and he was stuffy and ran like he needed it. He showed a lot of speed the last day so we brought him back to five (furlongs) and he again showed plenty of speed today and loved that summer quick ground. we didn't put him in the Listed race (at the Curragh) tomorrow for the simple reason we wanted to come here and take baby steps but he has done what we wanted and expected him to do from his home work. Entries for the (Group 1) Middle Park Stakes closed the other day so we had that choice to make and entered him, but we'll take baby steps up now, although winners' races are few and far between.

Weld & Hayes double up at Cork
She is a very brave and honest filly and a very good one. We thought she'd win today, were surprised she wasn't favourite but there you go and she is a triple Group 3-winning filly now. The distance was slightly short for her but she showed a good turn of foot at the top of the straight. She isn't a slow filly. She has plenty of entries in the autumn, we'll see how she comes out of this race and pick something nice. She'll be going back up to Group 1 level again.
Hurricane Helen storms home under Carroll
It was a competitive race and she had to wait to get out, but luckily did so in time. There is a long straight here so she had time to get into top gear. In fairness she hasn't run a bad race for us and I ran her over the wrong distance the last day but Gary couldn't pull her up. She has been a winner in waiting for her last couple of runs. She is in at Leopardstown on Thursday but it is a much higher bracket and we'll see how she comes out of this.
Bucaneer's Spirit looks cheap at the price now
He looks like he has been a great claim really as he finished second for me first-time-out at Tipperary last week and there was plenty to build on from that. From what I had seen at home, I thought he'd improve from it. I actually saw him going down to the start at Dundalk and he immediately caught the eye, as he looked like a horse who shouldn't be running in a claimer. He had a good action, was a very big horse and flew home for second having had little luck in-running from stall 14. I thought he was value for E5,000. . His owner Staton Flurry is from Arkansas, is a prominent owner in America and this is his first foray into European racing so I'm delighted to train a winner for him.
