Zabana wins Tramore opener
I think it's fair to say he was entitled to do that on his form and on ratings. I'm glad he did it today, having run well at Dundalk. I was a bit cautious coming down here as not every horse handles the track and he was a little bit awkward on the bends. I think he'll make a nice hurdler, he has plenty of size and scope and he has a big stride and will get better as he gets older.
Ibsen wins for Murphy/Brennan
he was a bit lazy for me but kept going and came back on the bridle going down the hill. He kept on well and will make a nice jumper in time.
On The Way Out brings home the bread!
we were considering running him in the Cesarewitch but he wasn't getting into it so we decided to come here instead; half a loaf is better than no bread! . He ran well at Listowel, knew he was in good form and he'll probably go back chasing now.
Busy Brennan on the double
he was dropping down in grade and I knew he would be competitive today; he won a good novice hurdle at Galway and he is much lower rated on the flat. He's not the fastest of horses but Ian gave him a great ride. He'll mix it between Flat and hurdles now and he might jump a fence next year. Ian (Brennan) had his first ride around here on John Murphy's winner (Ibsen) so he is 100% around here now! He's a great lad and is off to Dundalk now and then on to York tomorrow to ride Bubbly Bellini for us. He's also at Wolverhampton tomorrow night to ride Golan Heights for us!
Moncherie makes all for gutsy win
that was unexpected! She had a run over this course before, which I suppose helped and was wearing a tongue tie today which also made a difference. She panics in her races and her jockeys normally come back in and say she was running on 'the one breath'. I'd say she is suited to here and I counted five or six horses that had no experience over fences so that was also a help. She has a good pedigree and it's nice to get that win into her. Tom (Doyle) gave her a great ride and he is a great judge of pace. Her owner P.J. Condron is from Roscommon and he played football for Roscommon in his time.
Third win of the season for Instant
We were hopeful of a good run but he was ten pounds worse off with Claragh Native today (from when they met over the course and distance in August). We were eight and a half lengths in front of him that day. He is fresh and well in himself and the ground isn't that bad out there. We were going to bring him to Galway but when this was rescheduled we said we would come here instead as he likes it around here. He ran poorly in a bumper at Galway earlier in his career so he is only a maybe to go back there now in around seventeen days time.
Davy's combine to take the last at Tramore
He was well handicapped and I'm not surprised by the way he won. He was a good horse two years but has had problems and I'm just delighted to have him back right. I think he could win one of the better races off a light weight and Davy (Russell) agreed with me. He will have to go to Punchestown now on Wednesday under a four pound penalty before the handicapper gets at him.
