Claimer goes along expected lines
The way they are rated it made sense to run them here. They are in the shop window and maybe somebody will claim them. They went slow enough and it turned into a sprint up the straight. Other trainers don't seem to like these races. They probably think it's like turkeys voting for Christmas but they suit us.
Monkey a winner Kelly won't forget
He's a horse I've always liked and I've been waiting for a maiden up here as he needs good ground. We've had to be patient with him. He's a big backward baby and this was a nice introduction for him with only five runners. The Derrinstown Derby Trial closed recently and I was going to enter him in that but I didn't want to put the kibosh on him.
House Limit best in messy heat
I'm delighted for the owner. He owns a pub in Dublin . the Gravediggers (in Glasnevin). I'm told it serves the best pint of Guinness in Dublin. This horse is just a handicapper, what more can I say.
Lightning deservedly gets his turn
Hot Berry always well-positioned on Bed
Halpin super on Indiana
I'm very pleased with that and she deserved to win. We've put the blinkers on and they've been a big help to her.
Phebes is a hardy campainger on the up
He's a genuine solid horse. The plan was that if he won tonight we'd put him away and go for the Scurry Handicap (Derby weekend at the Curragh). It's a stiff six furlongs, plus, which will suit him. He's won a few now and we might as well have a crack at a 100 thousand Euro race.
