Daddy gains deserved success
He deserved that as he is a lovely honest horse but has just come up against one every time - that's what happens in Ireland unfortunately. The last day he ran over an extended 1m2f and they went no gallop and then sprinted which wouldn't suit him. He got into his own rhythm today and we kept it simple and the better ground suited today. We like him but that is very important for his confidence to get it out of the way.
Lyons doubles up in dramatic apprentice race
The plaudits go to Johnny as he took a little pull out the back as he knew there was something wrong with the horse in front (Geological). He thought he (Geological) was going a bit fast racing down the back straight and then he saw something wrong with his tack and he took a pull. It was a very intelligent ride by the young lad and the more rides he's getting the more relaxed he's getting. He appreciated the better ground and he'll get an extra couple of furlongs no problem.
Daughter of Prix Vermeille winner scores on debut
she is a lovely filly and Charles and Noel sent her to me as a yearling and she has always been very nice. Her dam won the Prix Vermeille and even though she is by Kodiac, her dam is by Shantou and she appreciated the ten furlongs there. She was just ready to start today and Billy said she came alive in his hands and pricked her ears at the finish. She is a very well bred filly and her owners have a stud farm so we'll see where we go (regarding black-type races).
Treble for Lyons as Red Strikes on stable debut
Today was genuinely only a fact-finding day. He's done a few pieces of work but we're only learning about him like everyone else. Colin said they went no gallop, which, in hindsight, wouldn't have suited him but he liked the ground, which is a positive. We thought at home that a mile and two furlongs is no problem to him, I'd say in time when we step him up into a higher grade of a race and they go a good honest gallop, that might suit him. He was honest today and we'll take the positives out of it. Fitness-wise he'll improve - we definitely haven't cooked him - and it was a good day out for him.
Weld's Brogue makes winning debut at Cork
he is a nice, raw horse and has plenty to learn. He is a beautifully bred colt and hopefully there will be plenty improvement to come. Oisin rode him very nicely and we'll look for a winners' of one next.
