Pub Talk claimed for € 20k for second time
Colin is riding five for me today and before the race we were joking, saying he'd have four non-runners if this fella was beaten! I wouldn't want to lose him but this is the game we play with the claimers. We gave €20,000 for him, he is in for €20,000 and has already won €11,000 in prize money for us. He was classy for that grade and his placed handicap form was good enough to do that and he did it well. we are short on staff so if we run them up here, we are quieter at home. They are fit and well but were quiet for December and January. They seem to be coming back to form and that is three winners in the last four weeks. When they come back in form, we may as well tip away again. James Ryan and Robert Whearty come in (to ride work) but are both suspended today unfortunately and we'll support them for the rest of Dundalk.
Fifth success for Mullacash Buzz
Tom filled me with confidence, said he was in great form but it was a pity about the draw. He really showed the ability he has, even from stall 17. He's very consistent, always breaks well and once you take a pull, he'll do his job from there. Even going up to the line there, he had his ears pricked and had plenty left. He'd have been a bit better with a bit of company but got it done in the end.
Seven year old mare secures second success this year
she's not over pacey and probably couldn't go with them early, but it suited as it fell apart in front of her. She didn't get there too soon and the one thing she will do is battle. We might come back here in two weeks' time and then if the turf ground becomes soft, we'll give her a little break because she wouldn't go on that. We'll bring her back for the turf halfway through the season. She'll have one more season and will probably go breeding then. we will probably have five or six horses for the Flat season and a couple for the jumps.
Veteran Bowerman registers 12th win
we've done very little with him since he ran here on February 15, he didn't even have a gallop. We tipped away with him on the beach for a couple of days and he was just floating around the gallop at home. We weren't going to run him and were going to keep him until next Thursday but looked at the pot of money and said we'd have a go. He's going great and is in great form. He has slipped down the handicap and I am not saying he is the horse he was, but has come back up and is capable here at this time of year. I bought him off the lads (previous owners Total Recall Racing Club) because they were going to put him in a claimer so it is great that myself and Stevie (Thorne, assistant trainer) have him. We have had a good bit of fun with him and when he is finished will be retired to a girl in England who brought him to us, and who will take him back. He has been a great horse.

Bargain buy Higher Kingdom records fifth win
he keeps delivering, is very consistent and Helen Mooney has a lot to do with his rejuvenation. She rides him every day and treats him like a baby, so I have to thank her. He loves the surface, loves an even track and has found his vein of form. Seamus (Devlin, owner) does a lot of the planning himself so we'll have a chat about plans but he might come back here. He'll stay 1m2f so has loads of options. I don't know about running on the turf as he is so good on this surface. We might look at Lingfield and Mulgrave (stablemate) might have a challenger! He'd be entitled to have a go and he would suit Lingfield. It is brilliant as he wasn't an expensive horse.
McAuley completes some tidy business with Dundalk double
it wasn't even the intention to be so handy and I had my script ready for Colin when he came in, saying 'the apprentices can hold him and there you are getting run away with!' . We are on a run at present as we claimed Inflection Point last week and he won on his next start and we have had our eye on this lad for a while before claiming him last week. He beat one of mine and was also second to Tai Sing Yeh and is a grand horse. Today was similar to Inflection Point's win last week as we only have him and he has only hacked away at home so we haven't done a whole lot with him. It is great to get the double and while Pub Talk was claimed, we ran 12 horses today and ten picked up money. We will have plenty up here next Thursday - the staff are moaning about Cheltenham but sure they nearly live here!
