The winner, Ulysses (GER), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Worcester on 5 July 2021 where the gelding finished eighth of fourteen, beaten by 26½ lengths on Good, Good to Soft in places going.
Derek Shaw’s explanation that the gelding appreciated the quicker ground conditions, which were officially described as Good and also benefitted from the drop back in trip from 2m 7f to 2m 4f on this occasion, was noted.
Ulysses (GER) was routine tested.
The performance of Espressino (GB) which started favourite and finished seventh, was considered.
The representative of Chris Down explained that the race appeared to have come too soon for the gelding, following it previous run 11 days earlier.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Espressino (GB) revealed the gelding was lame right-fore.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Gerboise Borget (FR), placed sixth, received treatment for post-race heat stress.
