Permission was given for Capone (GER) to go to post early; Capone (GER) wore earplugs which were removed at the start.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Chelsea Flyer (IRE), ridden by Miss Abbie McCain and trained by Donald McCain, which was held up in rear throughout and tenderly ridden until being asked for a hands and heels effort after the second last hurdle, to finish eighth of thirteen, beaten 20¾ lengths.
The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race, and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding, during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities and a further examination one hour later found the gelding to be one fifth lame right-fore.
The rider stated her instructions were to drop Chelsea Flyer (IRE) in and ride him to finish his race.
She added that the gelding was slightly keen in the early stages and she was conscious to get Chelsea Flyer (IRE) settled as he bled last time out and has had a pelvic injury in the past.
She further stated that the gelding took a blow 3 out whereupon she felt it prudent to keep a hold of Chelsea Flyer (IRE)'s head and get the gelding to finish its race.
The trainer’s representative stated that, having spoken with the Trainer over the phone, they had been satisfied with the ride given but stated that the rider may have overdone holding onto the gelding between the third last and second last hurdle.
Miss McCain was suspended for 10 days for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure Chelsea Flyer (IRE) was run on its merits throughout the race.
Following the race, Henry Brooke reported that Kingrullah (IRE), unplaced, did not jump fluently.
The Veterinary Officer reported that Landsman (IRE), unplaced, finished lame left fore.
